    ICBC is an excellent example of how not to run a public insurance company.

    Yeah it is an example of how not to run something like that.
    It's kind of like our medical system. You set up a public company and then elect "free enterprisers" who insist the managers need to be rewarded like they were running a private corporation and get rewards without the ability to decide shit.
    Then you still have the problem of regardless of if you elect conservatives or true socialists they stack the boards with cronies regardless.
    But you know what? It makes the news because it's public, everyone can vote out the party that did it. Which you can't do with a private company.
    Plus it's such a cash cow, any party has to be absolutely fucking retarded to get rid of ICBC.

    R=UP

    Well said Herbie. With the private companies they gouge you just as hard but the profits go to shareholders. With ICBC they go to the govt, ie back to us.

    So, you guys going to insist that your particular cases are the "truth" or acknowledge that this study is probably closer to it?

    Because your insurance companies profits are not going to the government (although they are taxed).

    In my opinion a government insurer should be running at cost, not making money hand over fist.

    Company BS vs freedom to choose.

    I was talking to a pal the other day. He bought a '47 Ford pickup. Very nice truck. IIRC it's vehicle number 6 or something. He called to have insurance put on it and the rep told him he had too many and they wouldn't insure it.

    Bill asked for clarification from the Head Office and the rep said not necessary because he had too many. He said thank you, hung up the phone and called their competition. They welcomed him with open arms and gave him a pretty sweet deal.
