OTTAWA - Stephen Harper's office appears poised to prevent a veteran TV cameraman from travelling with the prime minister this week because he asked an impromptu question at a media event. The TV networks are fighting back, insisting that they, not the Pri
"DrCaleb" said This just in: Reporters are not allowed to ask questions. There will be no film at 11.
During an event last week in New York, Ellis asked Harper about the charges laid against then-Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro, even though reporters and photographers had been told questions were not allowed. ... But following Ellis's New York assignment, CTV said it was told by the PMO that Ellis would not be allowed on Harper's plane, even though he had earlier been approved for the trip.
What a scumbag. He thinks journalists can ask questions that aren't pre-approved? What does he think this is, a democracy?
1. Elected representatives like Harper and Obama don't get to declare themselves 'off limits' to questions at public events. Don't like it then don't run for office.

The TV networks fought back, insisting that they not the Prime Minister's Office should decide who to assign to cover Harper when he travels abroad.
I disagree. Who gets to travel with the elected representative is up to that elected representative. If someone is being an asshat then the media doesn't get to interfere with official business by insisting on sending an asshat along for a trip. They can send him along separately and he can travel like any other reporter, but there's no 'right' for them to travel with Harper or Obama.
In this case the reporter was doing his job and I wish we had more like him down here instead of the orgiastic mass of cheerleaders who constantly campaign for Obama and the Democrats on the nightly news.

That's not good.
