Yep, women in the Navy at sea is such an awesome idea. What could go wrong?

Having men and women at sea is a great way to make the unprofessional officers reveal themselves.

I've dated 3 women that I worked with, although we were never boss/employee... but I saw a few of those in my lifetime... and we were never stuck together at sea for months at a time.

A boss/employee relationship is NEVER a good idea, at sea, even worse. But giving her command... how stupid in love can you get?

Yup ....I wuz posted to the cowpens right after I did a tour on the pigpens....next I'm hoping to be posted to the USS Horsestall or the Chickencoop

Something very much like this happened in the Royal Navy a month ago. The woman CO of a type 23 Frigate was relieved of command after having an affair with one of her on-board officers. It is not very professional of her and because of the "power" relation between her and her junior officers, it is appallingly bad management to do things like that. She should be sacked for her poor judgement and even outside of the Forces, it is a no-no.

I'm a bit confused about the story of the American cruiser, though. The CO got sick and hid in his cabin. It isn't terribly unusual to have a CO barricade up in his cabin for whatever reasons. The junior officers and Cos run the ship. This isn't a tug boat with the skipper spinning the wheel.
Now it says that the woman officer (with the stripper name?) was not qualified to be a "permanent XO". So, where was the XO? No mention that there was another one. it also lists some of the difficult things that she dealt with. These are good sized, powerful ships and they would require some pretty advanced knowledge to run. The run-in with the Chinese is thrown in to imply that she was in charge but it doesn't actually say that. That's probably just cheap-shot journalism ... sure looks like it, anyway. Now, having an affair with another crew member while a sea strikes me as being an exceedingly bad idea but the article has not convinced me that she is otherwise anything but a competent naval officer. The CO is very much in the wrong and should bare the brunt of any charges. She should also be sent home for her poor judgement but the article has a bit of a sexist edge to it, if you ask me

I was thinking that too. Was the CO relieved because of the fraternization or because the fact she wasn't qualified? Form the article it sounds like she handled herself well. Granted it sounds like the captain was thinkng with his other brain but it doesn't sound like the Peter Principle came into play.

Crap, if you couldn't reach out and give the tanker a little belly rub when taking on fuel or stores no matter what the sea state your CO, XO, 23 Officer of the watch or whoever had the con wasn't much of a seaman, especially since they claim the optimum distance is 30 meters which is still a long way out.

She quite obviously didn't understand the bow wave from the tanker and what it does to break the seas for the receiving ship but then again with the CO in his mick I guess nobody bothered to tell her and as far as I'm concerned she did a decent job because if she hadn't the headline would have read:

USS Cowpens severely damaged by woman driver.

As for their CO he should never see the inside of anything that floats again and that includes his bathtub. He's the problem not her and just because she boffed him doesn't mean she's not a good sailor.

Crap..............I can't believe I just said that.

Okay surprise me and tell me what kind of a replenishment is this?

The reason I ask is that only time you guys ever came out of the bowels of the ship during a seamanship evolution was if you were the upper deck stoker and he was usually the guy who got the job because he actually owned a bar of soap.
