The Royal Colony of New France was more of a backwater afterthought for French kings and grew only very slowly. The French did not want to keep la Nouvelle France as much as the British wanted to take it way from them. Both the USA and Canada (after the British conquest) were built mainly by people...

I dunno. Maybe they think you don't know much about American society. They seem to think they need to be able to defend against guv'ment. Right - you could have just stopped at the "I dunno" part and been correct.[/quote] I could have, but poking at smug ignorance is fun. It could be that...

The vast majority of American gun owners have no fears of having to defend themselves against some kind of "rogue" government, as stated above. The posters that seem to think that have clearly over-reacted to a few extremists that have made their way onto the media. And. . . it's clear th...

I was beginning to wonder if all Canadians get high at the same time - like some odd syncronized swimming event. . . Is it a law, or just a custom ?

I don't know who wrote the article you posted but it's clearly someone who knows little about law enforcement and seems basically anti-police as an agenda. Don't quite understand your points about the Canadian police, either. A sniper rifle is a tool, rather specialized, but a tool none the less. Ca...

Tin foil hat conspiracy theorists have always been a good source of entertainment. . . in a sad sort of way. I didn't think this forum would be a source of them, though.

So - which nefarious agencies and shadowy characters do you want to accuse today ?

That hasn't been the case for some decades. Although there will always be individuals that will violate standards and civil rights - aggressive internal affairs and judicial oversight has tremendously improved the delivery of law enforcement services in the US. If you don't think so, you've likely b...

The idea has merit. There are cadres of well trained armed security people that would be a lot less expensive from an employment cost standpoint than police officers. This is not a job for regular police anyway, as most departments are stretched thin manpower-wise as it is. Best scenario is plain-c...

No, it's not typical, in Texas or anywhere else. First, there was practically no probable cause for that invasive a search. Second, such searches are never conducted road-side and as someone posted - these ladies may have just won a nice lottery when the state winds up paying a settlement. It is a c...
