Does anyone else think its disgusting that when Belinda Stronach crossed the floor she was said to be "whoring herself out for power", but when Emerson does the same thing, he's totally left off the hook. I understand that they are different situations, but both of them violated the trust of the vot...

Rabblewatch, I never thought I'd say this, but I actually agree with much of you say. Conditions on the reserves are terrible. However, I do disagree with some of your views.

Firstly, many reservations are run democratically with an elected band council and cheif. Cheifdoms ...

Although I appreciate the creativity, Unistatian sounds like someone from a country with just one state. Perhaps we could go back to the early days of American exploration and call them all Virginians or Floridians (which both originally refered to the entire east coast of what would become the US)....

There are many words that refer two more than one groups of people, for instance:

-Indians: could refer to an Ojibwe person or a Tamil
-West Indians: could refer to a Trinidadian or a Gujarati
-European: could refer to a person from the continent of E...
lesouris, do you expect that something will happen to alter FPTP in this term?
The Conservatives, NDP, and BQ have all backed reforms to our voting system before, and I expect them to maintain that support now that they actual...

1. The left is already united in the New Democratic Party. The Liberal Party is centrist; it is centre-left and centre-right without being either. If the NDP and Liberals merge, NDP supporters would probably just start a new leftist party (i.e. the parties would merge, but their supporters would not...

Okay, I think it's time for a reality check.

I don't think you can call anyone in mainstream Canadian politics a "tyrant" or "Nazi" - or for that matter a "whore".

That being said, I think it's important for everyone - including Steven Harper - to re...

I don't think it's fair to say that any gun registry program would cost us way too much, just that the program we now have has been horribly mismanaged. A gun registry can work, but we need more government transparency and accountability first.

Besides, trying to repeal the ...

You misunderstand me gaulois, I did not mean to suggest that I didn't support recognition of our French nations as nations. I do, however, have some problems with calling them "Second Nations" especially in areas where the French did not settle until after the English or other groups.
&l...

Okay, I had to say something about what I'm reading here. Let me first start by saying that while I can read French, I am horrible at writing it. Yes, I am from Onatrio - Toronto actually, and I am not fluent in French. Does that make me a bad person? No. Is a monolingual francophone a bad person? N...
Curiously enough, France has signed the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, but will not ratify it because its Constitutional Council declared that implementing it would...

What's so bad about socialism? I'm not saying that what we have in Canada is socialism, but if socialism is defined as the pursuit of equality for all citizens, what's so bad about that?

I think it is a sign of a mature and developed nation that Canada would appear irrelevan...
