| It's true some of these areas are things we could do without eg. the government pays people to hire lawyers to oppose government policy. hey,who,want!!??!! Others may be more useful. Medicare, on average, results in greater health benefits for people of lower incomes not to mention a noteable degree of economic efficiency in comparison to the American system.
