Economics 101, if a stimulus package is not passed in some form, every Canadian will suffer the financial consequences. Are you a masochist or is it that you would prefer have less money and/or be unemployed?
flushing our money down the toilet is not going to stimulate the economy. it's a short term job savior program for the CAW.

Which school of economic are you looking at? The Austrian school of economic would set that it damages the economic in the long run. Business should be allowed to fall or rise on their own merits. Government getting involved in the economy damages the economy and cause the boom bust cycle plus alot of other problem. For example since the fed was created (1913) in the US the dollar has lost 95% of it value. In comparison to the period from 1800 to 1913 were the dollars value rise by over 50%. Plus, how I'm in BC going to be unemployed because the auto industry is in trouble. In fact I'm more like to have less money if the government is involved in the economy.
"Tegan" said Damn republicans, probably all drive Toyotas.
Since your politics would equate to Republican in the US.
Ignore the trolls...he doesn't even know what a "Republican" or "Conservative" or "deodorant" or "education" is, so expecting him to make ideological comparisons with the United States is like expecting the 23rd reboot of Knight Rider to matter. But, by all means, sit back and enjoy the mongo keyboard mashing.
I hope the plan fails. Let them file chapter 11 and have the courts monitor their restructuring. They will not go belly-up but will have to trim down the size of their operations. The greedy unions are much to blame for this mess. Eliminate the unions and the economy will turn around.
(I sit quietly and await the onslaught of pro-union retoric. Just keep in mind that I'm from South Carolina where there are only a handfull of unions and they are greatly despised by the general working population here.)

Yes indeed. Let businesses that are in trouble fail or success on their own accord. Whether it is a bailout or a loan, or any other idea the government can come up with, it is a bad idea. Government involement in the economic will only delay the pain and make it worst. To quote Macbeth "If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well It were done quickly".

I'm going to have to agree with you. Even with my father being a General Motors employee (management, I won't specify what division), I, and even he believes that GM declaring Chapter 11 would make General Motors much stronger in 10 years. To say that GM's quality is bad is somebody living in the past, since GM has been making large strides in quality (every car we've had since the late 90s have been great, and a Pontiac Trans Am van that we sold...sheesh in 1999 or something still is in working condition as a delivery van). Also, General Motors have been technologically innovative, and always will be so (look at GM's electric car history, for example)
The free ride that unions have had in both Canada and the United States will probably be ending in the matter of a few months. The labour is too expensive in North America, and soon enough, in maybe 20-30 years, Toyota will learn the same thing when their employees begin to retire.

The unions had their place in the 20's-40's era, but they have since outgrown their usefulness and have become their own worst enemy. Hope things work out for your dad's job C-kai. As bad as things are up there, just tell yourself that it could be worse, you could be in America.

a Canadian Conservative would be left wing compared to an American Democrat.
