By all accounts, LED lighting has a very bright future, and the future is arriving rapidly as utility companies tout the benefits of LEDs, and individuals and businesses make the switch both for environmental reasons and to save money.

Beats the heck out of the toxic flourescents that the greenies keep promoting.

CF bulbs aren't toxic. Any more than LEDs will revolutionize lighting. (currently)

They still have two fatal flaws: the cost, and the optical properties.

They are excellent for power efficiency, but so far are only good at giving omnidirectional light. Good for a flashlight, lousy for a room.

LED's are GREAT for flashlights. The filaments in the old school lights were terribly fragile but with an LED you can take your four-cell flashlight and beat the snot out of someone and still use it for a light!

You don't have to blind us first. Give us bacon, and we'll get in your car.

My 5 led headlight was a lifesaver up north in the 24 hour darkness, regular flashlights couldnt handle the cold and the batteries were useless after a few minutes.
I used to take 3 sets with me and sell them to the boys when i came back to the world.

    :D
