That saddens me so much. My b/f is in the Army, serving his country, I was in a military program for 4 years of my life. People demand freedom and take it so much for granted, but then they disrespect those who serve, and don't support the men and women who lay down their lives unselfishly for others. It sickens me so much!!!
Yes, people have forgotten. The Army has given people freedom and they chose to regard it as 'it's history' an forget all sacrifices.... It's happening to Canada Now.... Kids being rasied to think their Military is crap because of American Media and idiot Teachers... *saluteS*
I agree; it takes a lot to be in the military, to give selflessly for your country, your family, or whatever it is that you're fighting for.
I don't think that it's unpatriotic to not stand every time you see someone who's in the military. If they were being disrespectful, shouting anti-war things at the soldiers (who can't do anything about the fact that we're at war), etc., that would not be cool.
It IS in fact possible to be respectful AND seated.
In any case, I think it's more important that people do things for their respective troops where it matters. Petition the government / hold a rally / do something if you feel strongly about it in a way that will benefit the troops.
It IS cool though that this man is grateful/supportive enough to stand when he's usually in a wheelchair.
Much respect (from my comfortable computer chair).
I don't think anybody is saying you need to stand for any time a serviceman walks by, however if you look at the pic, the USMC have a flag party marching by, most likely they are carrying their colours, the guy in the wheel chair is probably a former Marine, or at the least a guy who shows his respect for the colours which is tradition to stand out of respect when they are displayed. Maybe Bart Simpson a former Marine can weigh in on this one.
