Greed, selfishness and saving a nickel at Walmart is more the factor than anything else. If there isn't a cross-section of middle-class jobs on this continent (and in this country), then the majority of us are doomed. Period. That's the wrong way 'round. You have to save a nickel and shop at Walmar... |

PluggyRug PluggyRug: Even an 8 track is ultra modern compared to union ideology.
Thanks for that pithy comment. That really contributed something.
Wanna come out and explain how you would reconcile the needs of the many over the wants of the few? |

The union employees made fairly good money and the temps made about 8.00/hr. The company hired so many temps because to employ all union employees at their wage would have been a loss to the company. And the temps did exactly the same job as the union employees? If not, your comparison's a non-star... |

Glad to hear that fortune's favoured you. Can you appreciate that not all are as fortunate? I guess that's what gets me about some here is the dogged adherence to the Horatio Alger self-made man mythos as if Fate has always and will always favour you. I've seen both sides of fortune and don't curse... |

There’s a lot of jobs that can’t be off-shored. A plumber has to physically be here in Canada to put toilets in. Same goes for electricians and pretty much every other trade out there. Until the average Joe finds it more onerous to hire a professional plumber or electrician than attempt the job for... |

PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9: Yep, that's a FUCK of a lot of cake rolling in all right. And of course none of those sectors makes more than 10 bucks an hour
And the cost of representation? The bottom line is that these industries are represented on principle rather than income potential to the union. |

The more you make, they more THEY haul in thru union dues. The CAW alone represents almost 300,000 workers in various trades and industries, including the retail and hotel sector. That's a lot of cake the CAW rakes in every pay period. Uh huh. And we know just how much cake the retail and hotel sec... |

Anywhere near the GTA? Not likely. And $40K net or gross? Big difference. How many kids? Any special needs? Suddenly $40K doesn't go very far. Sittin' smack dab in the GTA. Just 10 minutes East of Toronto. I moved from Toronto 5 years ago. So you're in Pickering. OK. Bit of a bugger if you have to ... |

I gotta admit, I could NOT agree with you more on that point. Armaegeddon is nigh! Believe it or not, there is a middle ground. You aren't either a dyed-in-the-wool capitalist or a dyed-in-the-wool communist. Why is it that so many here feel the need to absolutely categorise others they don't... |

Willingly??? Yeah, I guess after being extorted by workers....<snip> Hookay. This is just gonna keep going in one ear and out the other with you. You seem to need someone to demonise and unionsed hourly workers does it for you. Knock yerself out, Ace! Don't forget, those oh-so-intellig... |

Lowering the prices of goods benefits few? Increasing the size of your mutual fund RRSP/pension doesn’t help the many? If you own a mutual fund RRSP (like most middle class Canadians), then you’ve benefited from off-shoring/outsourcing. Disproportionately yes. And I only benefit from off-shoring un... |

Wow, did they spoon feed you guys the unionist dreck you're vomiting out or did you eagerly learn their bullshit voluntarily? Or are you two just union spin doctors? Either way, your proletarian rants smack of Marxism. No. I learned that we sink or swim together through life experience. I've spent ... |

$40K enough to have a family on, OnTheIce? Live anywhere near work? Or should everyone else give up their expectations at your say so? Expectations that they should make, 50-60k doing unskilled labour? That's unrealistic expectations. Again, as I said in my last post, you don't know what the skills... |

OnTheIce OnTheIce: Even so, $20 for a job that requires nothing but a drivers license and a grade 6 education ain't bad.

Using low priced labour located elsewhere is nothing new. I didn't suggest it was something new. I suggested it's something that benefits few at the expense of the many. There needs to be a balance of job types/pay categories that fairly matches the abilities of the population. If we continue to se... |
