It is not surprising that the new Conservatives would cut the funding for environmental initiatives and research. Their policy book indicates that these initiatives will be replaced by tax cuts for corporations. One has to wonder how they plan "to prove" the effectiveness of that strategy ...

What does the NDP really stand for today? It could have been a positive force in Canadian politics but today it seems to have no direction other than to try to deal with the symptoms caused by the rapidly increasing inequality of free market capitalism. I am convinced that it is the ties to corporat...

Creating "diversions" is one of the main strategies of what I call "corporate fundamentalism." This is why the corporate media tends to focus its criticism on the new Conservatives social conservatism or other minor policies. It deflects attention from their radical right wing co...

It is only the social conservative views with which most CEOs might have a problem. Harper's economic views are identical to theirs. He has shown them that he can put the wants of corporate Canada before democratic values by selecting their representatives for his cabinet even if they could not get ...

I am not convinced that media advertising is the issue. I have wondered whether the placing of recruitment offices in areas of high unemployment is not a major factor along with strong recruitment programs directed at students in these areas. It seems that most of the soldiers killed and wounded hav...

"better than being run simply by corporations."<br /> <br /> Haven't you ever listened or read Harper's articles and speeches? He has been one of the "priests" of corporate fundamentalism as head of the NCC. Why do you think he was willing to thumb his nose at democracy by referring to v...

Stephen Harper is an authoritarian. Way back when he was running for the leadership of the Canadian Alliance he made it clear in an interview with the Alberta Report that: "If I get a mandate, I'll use the full authority of the ofice to ensure things go the way I intend them to go."<br /> <...

The point that seems to be missed is that people like Brison, Emerson, Stronach, Fortier, and many others become involved in the politics to promote their economic class interests. This is just as partisan as any party loyalty.

Your point on the 92 referendum but is it realistic to put every issue to the public in such a way? It is a valid approach for major issues, such as constitutional changes. On the other hand, if a government incurred the same level of expense on every issue there would be little left to pay for prog...

I think I do get it. Has it ever occurred to you that it is your lack of civility and respect for others that results in the kind of treatment you receive? If you attack someone who has similar beliefs to you in the way you do I would expect that your attitude to those who had fundamental difference...

This essay raises several questions and issues. Most of the factual data in this essay seems to be consistent with my own research. However, I would challenge the direction the author suggests as a solution. Here are six points that could be discusses further. 1. Would replacing deep integration wit...

Gerrymandering was designed to create ridings in which a certain party can win based on traditional voting patterns. Elections Canada does keep track of the vote in each poll for a riding.

"Too bad people are here just to look for a reason to lecture people and feel smug about their own lack of initiative, then maybe they'd follow the suggestion mentioned above and go to the direct democracy link to see HOW to challenge the system. It involves more work than talking down at other...
