I really did not want this thread to turn into another Canada v US medical system debate, though of course that's what it will turn into. But since we're going that way, A recent excellent unpublished study by Samuel Preston and Jessica Ho of the University of Pennsylvania compare mortality rates fo...

You don't just risk bankruptcy by not having insurance in the States. You risk bankruptcy by needing medical care in t... |

But still, those 29 million (just less than one in ten Americans) face potentially serious repercussions for their choice not to have coverage, and you cannot simply delete them from the count and say there's no problem. Or are health care costs not really one of the leading causes of bankruptcy in...

Wait, what? So 29 million could be insured but choose not to be, so they don't count, even though if they get some condition while uninsured, that then becomes a pre-existing condition, and they'll have a really hard time getting it covered if they can at all. The issue concerning this demographic ...

Let us break down the infamous '47 million uninsured.' According to the Census Bureau, of that 47 million, 38 percent of them (18 million) have personal incomes of more than $50,000 a year. This means that they can afford coverage, and choose not to purchase it. Is it just to tax other working peop...

GreenTiger GreenTiger: Perhaps the best way to approach Mr Hugo is the same way Hillary Clinton is treating Kim Jong Il(l), don't give him the attention that he so desparetely craves and he will start to act like an adult.

We'll see. Much of the stabilization is due to the enormous amount of stimulus injected into the economy the US and Chinese governments. At some point, the real economy must start picking up, but there are still huge imbalances and problems in the economy right now. I would not be surprised if we fe...

Fiddledog Thanks for tracking down the requirements. I knew that Canada paid the median of other industrialized countries. I did not know the other requirements. A few points (which may be hypothetical, because I do not know if they are all true). If costs are rising faster than the CPI, that could ...
