I think they're out of touch with more provinces than just Alberta and Quebec.

That being said, the provinces always complain about the federal government being out of touch.

I read that as a rhetorical question

I do agree with xerxes, IMO the Federal Gov't is out of touch with most of Canada and focuses on whatever will win them the next election.

elle38 elle38:

You do know that is the nature of any elected Government?
the problem with Canada in this regard is that only requires buying off votes in certainty impetrate regions and appeasing Ontario and Ottawa. in the USA it is not and has never been that way, because our system has an elected senate and an electoral cottage as well as a number of constitutional rules.
Making ruling form just a few political intrest in 1 region practically impossible.
And for your situation, I hate to break it to you, but human nature dictates that has almost no chance of ever happing with in Canada’s political establishment which has been going on since its inceptions. Its not wonder their have been so many rebellions and the “nation has been so unhappy with its forced confederation” as it has. If you really want the honest truth and I’m shore you and everyone else’s on this board doesn’t, Canada is an Empire, not a nation state, and never has been one in truth!

But then again yal can keep denying this fact until hell freezes over, the only real point is, it will be YOUR hell that has frozen over!
And I think I should point out, that this problem has been getting progressively worse since day one, which is effetely after the British let you go in the 1930’s.

And unless something fundamentally changes, and again human nature, and that of the nature of Canada it self makes such a change extremely unlikely but as with all things it is of course possible. He alienation and milltiansim about Canada current situation will only continue to grow as it has, and not just in Québec, but now Alberta as well, and their will be others such as BC that will eventual follow.
If you want to be smart about it, id think about this as a warning, that your system needs to change fundamentally. Other wise you can just act nor it, until the problems and discontent across the Empire continue to grow to the point where that can no longer be ignored.
The problem when you get down to it holds its roots in these historically based flaws in the setup of “Canada” that have been getting worse and more aggravated since day one.
So by all means ignore what I say here as “ignorant” it’s your choice, and quite frankly I expect it from you, which is why I don’t expect Canada unless something really major does happen to really be able to last anther 100 or perhaps even 50 years.
Ya’ll have already passed the point where most states would simply rebel, in fact ya’ll have passed that point the minute their was even an indication that such abuses even could take place (hint: US Civil War), and now ya’ll are at the point where it has already taken place and driven entire regions into the ground and is now taking place in anther part, all but guaranteed to do the exact the same thing, to now Alberta and the west.
Albertans are good people and from what I heard they have taken a lot already, faro more than was their share to begin with! And they have been doing everything within their power to get that distant impearl capital Ottawa to change. Its polices and treat them fairly. And they may yet succeeded in doing just that! But the odds based upon Canada’s history are stacked against them big time!
At the end of the day they and the rest of Canada are going to have to chooses, and he odds are again, they will chooses the same course, until it breaks them down to the point where they can no longer afford to remain. The choice in Alberta clearly has become for many Albertans one of intelligences.
As long as they remain in Canada, the corrupt political establishment that is slowly killing it will never change, on the other hand if they leave the shock and economic cost will force it to change, but that will require actually leaving Canada’s ability to control, probably to the Untied states, as to guaranteed they do not simply uses their military numbers to retake it and Maintain the status quo,
The alliterative is just that the status quo which will inevitably Continues to get worse and worse politically, as Canada grows and diversified in interest politically.
And either it breaks up or Canada drives it self as it currently is to the point where it no longer is able to continue going.
Fixing Canada with out taking unprecedented measures at least fro Alberta or ROC. Historically has proven to be practically out of the question, but it is also not impossible!

They simply don't care about Alberta. It almost seems as though they are jealous of our success.
