I might transfer out west (west is best) and Coquitlam is an option among other places..Coquitlam looks to be nicely situated. Not far out in the mountains like Revelstok, which is another option of mine...
So if anyone has any inside info on Coquitlam such as, housing costs, apt rent costs, and some ideas on what the city is really like, it would be greatly appreciated..... [BB]

Not too far from Revelstoke? Well, I suppose that might depend where you are now. My guess is that it's about 10-12 hours by car.

Search for Rentals

Coquitlam is nice, nothing extra special about it, but it's close to Vancouver, lots of shopping nearby, and it's not that hellhole Port Coquitlam. :D

I like the Kootenays and Cranbrook is great. Grande Cache and anywhere in BC is fantastic. Living on the Island will ensure a mild winter, Esquimalt, Nanaimo and other larger small towns are awesome. I am not sure of employment in those areas as I haven't been to any of them since 2002. Good luck. Calgary is awesome for jobs and close to the mountains so you may like it also.
Sorry I didn't really read your post. Coquitlam is another nice place and is within a striking distance of Vancouver and Seattle is a day away. I hope you enjoy your new digs wherever they may end up being. Are you moving because of a lack of work in your area or just to get to the mountains?

lily lily:
Revelstoke is stunning though.

I agree with you Revelstoke is a natural picture in every direction you look. I have camped alot in the area. And loved the white water rafting trips we took there too but alas I forgot the name of the river we were on.

Perhaps you should do a little more research. I was gonna say decide between the ;burbs and the boonies but Coquitlam isn't really even 'burbs no more.

Thanx everyone for your responses..
I like what I am hearing so far..I had been out to B.C. a few times before. I was a CF field engineer in Chilliwack and I have vacationed in Vancouver a few times since then. I did the whistler drive and other traditional Vancouver tourist stuff..From all my experiences out there I have come to decide that B.C. is for me..
So I am positioned now in my company with enough seniority to move west. I am a locomotive engineer with the Canadian Pacific railroad.
I looked into Revelstoke and as beautiful as it is out there it's too secluded for me. Calgary is an option as well (that's CPs head quarters) but it just gets too cold..Then I heard of Coquitlam and when I heard of where its located it got my interest. It looks to be not to close and not to far from a major city..I can research for ever on the net, but to actually get information about a city from people who have been there is worth gold, so thanx again..
I am currently living in windsor Ont. in case anyone was curious..

I live beside Coquitlam. It is nice, but it cost more than say Maple Ridge. About 100,000 more for a condo. There is a lot of people from Asia who live there and because of this there is a lot good Asia stories and places to get all types of Asia food. It has one of the best board game stories in the lower mainland and if you work in downtown Vancouver you can take a train for about $180 a month. I would taken about 35 minutes to get downtown from there. The mall is not bad and it was in the movie Juno. It has a nice indoor swimming pool about 5 minutes from the mall, but the library is a bit small. There is also a community collage in the area.

Feel free to send me a message if you would like more information.
