I personally feel there are going to be many sound bites from Mr. Mckenna. It is going to be like Ali vs Chuvalo

It was phil hartman, from SNL, and TAlk Radio (I think). He was killed by is wife, who then killed herself.
That was a great article.

My Dad watches Talking to Americans on CBC because we can pick it up over the river back home. He gets really involved and starts yelling answers at the TV. I clearly remember him insisting to the television that Toronto was the capital of the country.
Oh well, I give him credit anyways.

Phil Hartman was great- it's a shame that his death was pointless.

I think that someone should vote Amb. McKenna for the UberCanuk award and make him an honourary member here. Maybe send him a t-shirt.

i think that we as Americans (as a general population) are uneducated and unaware of anyone besides ourselves. I know some people are very well "edumacated" on foreign topics, but mostly we aren't. We do learn some things about other countries in school, but mostly just the US. Canada, I don't remember ever talking about it...we do need to be more aware and i'm learning a lot on this site. I agree that it's basically left to the individual to seek out the knowledge.

Once again the topic of US public schools has arisen. The k-12 system currently doesnt cover enough topics especially world issues. Maybe we need to get rid over summer vacation to allow more time for these teachers to put a comprehensive plan together. The individual can always take it upon themselves to seek the information. That is one of the reasons why I enjoy this site.

canucker canucker: I found this story interesting considering all the bashing going on in several threads of late. We don't need more here....
But I do feel we know more about the States than alot of Americans, IMO. Yes, sometimes it's exaggerated (like on Leno, etc.) but it is still very true. The States focus mostly on American history in school, so who can blame people for not knowing alot about Canada.
I'm an American and I can tell you that American schools don't even teach US history in any decent manner. They focus on politically correct BS instead of teaching history anymore.
There's a lost generation of kids growing up who have no idea what it is to be an American nor do they have any idea of the shared history of the US & her closest allies such as Canada.
Americans don't take Canada for granted. Most of them are OBLIVIOUS of Canada.

I moved to the States halfway through 10th grade and was enrolled in US History, having missed the first marking period. By the end of the class, the Canadian had the highest grade LOL
The most I remember Canada being even mentioned during my 3 year US High school foray was when we learned the provinces and their captiols in World Geography. I aced that section, but I was at a severe disadvantage when it came to rattling off all 50 states, their locations, capitols, state birds and postal code abbreviations >_<;;

(Good) teachers already spend their summers putting together lesson plans for the coming year. The only thing is they get to do it tanning on the dock at their cottage.

I agree... are there any other sites like... I dono... "Latvia kicks ass" or something? lol Shame you'd need to speak the language to really read into it though, I'd genuinely be interested in something like that ._.

yeah, teachers do a lot of planning work during the summer...i wonder if their topics are limited by the school or just by the time needed to cover "everything"...
i don't think Americans take Canada for granted. I think it's just lack of knowledge. To take advantage you need to be aware...as PeterFinn said--most of us are just oblivious......obliviously!

did sat scores go up , way up?.....no they were roughly the same
They redid the sats added a few sections , time will tell
Hell , Back in the 20 , 30 , 40 , kids were better edjucated [ see ] than today ,
