Yank-in-NY Yank-in-NY: $1: "The U.S. is exporting its problem of violence to the streets of Toronto," he said. I'm wondering who the hell buys this crap
Most, but not all, supporters of the Liberal Party and the NDP(there are still a few voices of reason crying out in the wilderness of rhetoric in those organizations).

according to Toronto police 50% of illegal guns seized in the city are smuggled in from the US. Now personally I don't think that's your problem to deal with at all and we should learn to deal with the fact we live next door to a country with different gun laws than our own

Well I suppose we should amend our Constitution and ban the right to bear arms to appease left wingers from another country.
OR
They can just increase border security.

I don't doubt thats the case, why is it an pre-election issue though? Someone buys into this, otherwise it wouldn't be mentioned.

Actually if we really want to see gun violence go away on both sides of the border, we should legalize and regulate drugs. Watch gun related crime drop 90% across North America.

Just so we Americans don't feel too self rightous... don't we blame Mexico, Columbia and yes, even Canada, for our drug problems?
Not to start a new discussion, but it shows how hard it is to face up to our own problems. We need to find answers to these questions; why do we need drugs and guns in a civilized society?
And, just because we don't have answers doesn't mean we have to search for someone else to blame. We all need to take care of our own dirty laundry.

there isn't a quick fix solution to this, and it can't be resolved solely through the justice system any more than it can just through social programs.
We need
1) More cops (1 cop for every 500+ citizens in an urban area is a joke)
2) Mandatory minimum sentencing for gun possession, use in a crime and discharging (5/10/15 years)
3) Safe supervised after school programs to keep kids off the streets (the devil makes work for idle hands and all that).
To be honest those who talk about more jobs for underprivileged youth are wasting their time, do you really think that these gangsters would give up their lifestyle for a shift at McDonalds?
In the longer run something has to be done about the glorification of the gangster lifestyle in rap videos but I'll be f*cked if I know how to do that.

I'd be in favour of just limiting the number of Jamaicans, though I doubt that would ever happen. Also, anyone caught with a gun who is not a citizen should be shipped back to their point of orign, no questions ask. Handguns only have one purpose -- to kill people. So you can assume that anyone who owns one is using it for that purpose. (As for the so-called "collectors" -- screw them. Let them collect stamps.)
Even if it is American guns, it's still Canada's responsibility to stop then coming acroos the border, so I don't see the point of blaming the US. What we have to do is find ways to get more pot down there to counteract the gun culture!
I think using the market approah could work. Offer a substanital reward -- five grand or something -- for infomration leading to the arrest of someone with a handgun.

That maybe but it still originates in Jamaica. It’s a culture there
