Just because you get a few speeding tickets, doesn't make all "Cops" assholes.
A few rude people (or the beer  ) should not jade anyone's perception of a whole Nation.

Sorry Bout' the double post.. could have sworn I went to edit..

It's a racial slur everywhere, boys. Bush used it in public. Kinda makes me wonder what kind of language he uses in private.

the most upfront act of anti-americanism comes from the west coast. squamish bc. atleast from my knowlege of anti american acts etc etc.

canadaka i hope you weren't making a connection between lack of anti-americanism in bc, being there due the lack of racism. they are 2 distinct things.

Dear Everyone,
As far as anti-americanism in Canada goes, you should see what Europe and Australia are saying about us. Honestly, you should hear what the French and Germans have to say about The United States, its government, and its general culture. They talk TONS of shit, so I think that when Canadians talk so much trash, its partially because they dont like The United States all that much, and also (like many of you mentioned, but to a lesser extent, I think) because they have a bit of a little brother trying to find his own identity syndrome. I think they hate our policies. I think they hate how Americans can be more materialistic. I think they hate the fact that we stand by and watch what the whole world knows is a horrible president ruin our and other countries. Sipmly because you may not see America's faults, does not mean they dont exist. Though of course, Canada has its faults as well but I don't see Canadaisn saying God Bless Canada or Canada: Land of the Free in mass numbers, as though their nation is The Promised Land itself. Maybe, just maybe thats why some Canadians have shit with the U.S. On the other hand, I would imagine that quite a few Canadians dislike Americans as a social/cultural force, but individual for individual, they really don't mind most Americans. In fact, thats MY opinion about Americans.

Many of you talk about how "multiculturalism" is just a euphemism for racism. I think when some people say "I like how Canada has a multicultural society" it is racism, but in most cases its not. I think most Canadians recognize that people want to hold on to their culture, and they shouldn't be expected to assimilate. If people do assimilate, however, the response is neither positive nor negative, its just something that happens. I think also that the pro-multicultural stance stemmed from Anglo Canadas Relationship with French Canada. I'm sure that for years the Canadians assumed the French would give up their language, culture, and food, but they haven't, and they probably won't any time in the near future. This isn't racism, this is simply recognition that people have their own cultures. And iI think loving and knowing each others' cultures is something Americans typically aren't fantastic at. The cultural situation between blacks and whites is still a bit of a joke, unfortunately. Can't we recognize that many blacks are going to speak in ebonics and many whites are going to use "proper" English and just accept it, and understand why this has occurred? I know there's racism in Canada, but there is racism all over the place. Wherever seprate cultures exist, the ignorant will always choose to be racist.

many Americans seem to have a the opinion that The States is pretty top shit, and that Canada is "just there". Whether they're fully aware they have this opinion or not is up for debate. So I think that breeds some Canadian resentment. In all honesty, if people get treated poorly in Canada, they're probably acting like assholes. Americans get ill-treatment and great treatment all over the place. Not just Canada. And if the Western World, our allies, are all inhenrently stricken with anti-americanism then we really have to start asking ourselves "What are we doing to piss these people off so horribly?"

A quick note: I have studied this extensively as I consider myself a strong ally of the Gay/Lesbian community: A civil union DOES NOT grant the same rights that marriage does. There are literally thousands of rights denied to gay couples that they would be granted if they were allowed to get married. Seriously. Google it. check the GLBT web site. If you people have a problem with gays marrying each other, because you have it stuck in your mind that true love is only between straight people, then fine. but then you should start changing what entails a civil union and the queer community wouldn't be so irritated. or just let them get married.
-Thanks for listening, and if you have criticsm/rebutal, keep it pleasant and civil. You know, for the sake of HUMANITY hah.

NYC-
I guess we were sort of saying the same things eh? But I think what struck our opinions as being pretty different is the fact that you think Canadians are horribly "misinformed", using a word you used. Where my statement was more along the lines of maybe most Canadians are informed , and Thats why they have certain dislikes. My post was not just an explanation of anti-american sentiment, but also slighly a justification of it. However, I totally feel what you and others are saying when it comes to people being rude from other countries. I think thats pretty lame. I was talking to a German once and I asked him what his favorite American state was. He said California. I nodded with a smile, it was a bit of an expected answer. Then he said with this really condescending smile on his face, like he was talking to someone who should know something they dont, and he was totally amused by it asked me "You know where California is right?" and I replied " Yeah dude". I brushed it off. Then I asked what the biggest difference he thought there was between Germans and Americans and he said "Germans are more intelligent" to which my reply was "Yeah that really explains the fucking holocaust you little shit". Im kidding, hah, I didnt say that, that would have been horrible. And I happen to agree with him, so I didn't say anything. getting back to my point though: The guy assumed I was some kind of ignorant American, a stereotype, a cliche. so I'm sure there are atleast a small amount of Canadians like this.

...and that sums it all up. Way to set the record straight allthatnoise. You summed up in one (quite long, but it's ok  ) post what people have been bickering about all morning. I personally, read it earlier and thought "jeez, what a bunch of whiny teenagers" and moved on to another thread, but I like your style better... 8)

Maybe they should give civil unions the same rights as marriage, but a different name and venue. While you shouldn't stop people from doing what they want with life, you shouldn't force churches to marry people.

Like I have said numerous times before, a gay person can get married just like any other person. There is no law saying a gay person cannot marry a member of the opposite sex.
