It seems there were reasons why the Canadian government stayed out of Iraq.

OTTAWA -- Canadian officials say they challenged the U.S. to share secret intelligence showing that the Baghdad regime had dangerous weapons of mass destruction in the run-up to the Iraq war, but Washington failed to deliver, thus cementing the Chrétien government's resolve to stay out of the conflict.

Ya know Rev, ive allways been a supporter of our US brothers, but I coudnt see my way clerar to support the Iraq deal.. And as we go along further, ans further I see that Chretien was correct to keep Canada out of this fiasco. Also now with what happened in Spain, and the reasoning behind the incident there, it could have very well been Torontos Union Station or maybe Montreals Gare Central (Central Station) that was targeted.. WHos to say....But a govt has fallen in Spain partly becasue of thier decision to back the US in Iraq... I am sure that history eventually will not look kindly on Pres Bush for his action in Iraq. And I also think that things are just starting to heat up now too.......

I’m also glad Canada stayed out of the Invasion. Though I think we have an obligation to try to help re-build, I think the world has an obligation to re-build. I don’t think the “New Iraq” should be an Iraq based on American values and American ideas. I think if the US had there way they would make them all speak English and listen to Johnny Cash. I think the USA needs to hand over total control to the UN (which I know will never happen).

They should all listen to Johnny Cash...he was as against this war as I am. Willie Nelson too. And Steve Earle.

If we do as Kofi Annan asked last week in his Address to the Canadian Parliament, we will be playing a bigger role in the UN. That may provide us an opportunity to help make Iraq and many other places a little bit better.

If you get a chance read Gwynne Dyer's latest column, "Invasions aren't the solution to dictators." I haven't been able to find a free link to it on-line yet, but it was in this morning's Winnipeg Free Press. It's a syndicated column, so it will have appeared elsewhere as well. It gives a pretty good over-view of the problems that the illegal invasion of Iraq has caused not just for the countries directly involved, but for everybody.

I think that Bush is going to be judged very harshly by history. He has done little to truly fight terrorism, but has arguably incited even more terrorist acts. There seems to be little reason for his actions except for a personal agenda of greed.

You guy are all forgetting that Canada took part in the invasion of Al-Q's home base of Afghanistan, and while we're probably not exactly at the top of the Jihad shit list but I don't think those guys will pass up an opportunity to hurt us if they can't get to someone else.

Some one made a good point on a radio talk show yesterday saying that Canada wont really be a target, as they like to come here to raise money and also hide it seems so they dont want to bring too much heat on them selves here in Canada.. i dont know how true that may be but its something to think about

Yeah. al-Qaeda will probably find us more useful as a place to raise money and recruits for use elsewhere. The trouble will come when/if the goverment decides to crack down on them or they find greener pastures.

It really scares me the kind of power my government has. 90% of Europe had to form one unit just to try to compete, and now the whole world in the form of the U.N. have to come together to try to put us in the place they believe we should be in. I hate Bush, I hate the war in Iraq, but I also do kind of feel that if most countries that did not want to have anything to do with Iraq in the first place shouldn't want to put their noses in it now either. It's just a personal view, but I know the health of the whole world in general will be a lot better if we all worked together. And that's the most important thing.

Seems to me that the best thing to do is rebuild Iraq and let their people run the country as they see fit. However,I still cannot understand why after all the money, and the rhetoric, and good intentions, that there are still CRITICAL problems with water, food, sanitation, power and medical care.Take care of the basics first,as that will go a long way towards making something good come out of all this horrible mess.

It should scare you - your rights are being eroded as I type my weary fingers to the bone.

But if you're just another one of the chappies that are full of 'HATE' then buzz off - we don't need any more 'haters'. Got a bushel full or a peter picked a peck full of hate right here.

Buford makes a point - time to stop pointing fingers that always complete full circle from left back to the pointer - and maybe even try to come up with suggestions as how to make this new country work.

The coalition of the willing will provide the wherewithal to provide the infastucture necessary for a country to become a useful participant in the world scheme.

It just takes time.
