On Sunday I left the eastern townships for a few weeks to go visit my father who now lives in Rhode Island (Did you know, 85% of the population of Woonsocket, RI is made up of people of canadian descent, and at one point had a higher percentage of francophones than Montréal?).

As I was driving to his house I passed a brand new 24h Tim Hortons. Tim's has bought out a failing chain of doughnut shops known as "Bess Eaton" and converted all their former locations to Tim Hortons. Apparently there are aprox. 30 Tim Hortons locations in Rhode Island and South-eastern Massachusetts now.

The Doughnut-Shop culture so prevelent back home is also a big part of the Rhode Island culture although it has been dominated by Dunkin Donuts for as long as anyone can remember. Let us hope that Tim's is successful in this region as a reminder to everyone who is the king of doughnuts!

I knew that Timmis went south; I just didn't know that they actually bought out another chain. Good for them. And the US can now enjoy a fine coffee and doughnut. Timmis is the KING of doughnut. Some people would argue that Krispy Kreme is, to me it’s just a close second. They have one (and only the one) doughnut that I like. And it’s only good hot. There is a good reason why KK is doing well; they only establish themselves in big cities. Timmis are everywhere. Glad to see that another fine compagny is doing well and now exporting.

BTW, I was in Halifax two weeks ago, for the tall ships, and saw Mr. Tim Horton's Yacht. I beautiful sail boat; so slick. The mast is so high that it couldn't go under the bridge. Huge container ships have to go under that bridge and unload in the Bedford Basin.
Anyway I thought I could share.

Didn't Tim Horton die in a car wreck in 1974?
Was it his personal yacht, or does the corporation now have a yacht?
Not trying to nit-pick here Mario, I'm just a little confused.
BTW I'm a little jealous that you got to see all those tall ships.
I'm a big fan of 'The Age of Sail' and I wish I could have made the trip across the Confederation Bridge to see them all.
I caught some of the procession on TV and it was a sight to behold.
It must have been even better in person.

Tim Horton did die sometime in the seventies, I'm not sure of the year. He drove his car into a pole in an apparent suicide. There were the usual rumours of foul play.

I don't know who owns the yacht, but Tim Horton's is at least partially owned by an American restaurant chain, so it isn't really the great Canadian icon it's made out to be.

I'm always amazed by sailing ships...it's a technology that I have absolutely no experience with, but it seems so efficient.

.

Most likely his greedy American business "partners" did it. Can't trust them at all and I have no doubts that they are the ones who killed him. Disgusting indeed.

The tour guide mentioned that it belonged to tim hortons , and it looked recently built. Probably belongs to the timmis corp. I didn't know that Mr. Horton died in the mid seventies.

AquariusPEI save your pennies. Some of them should be back in 2 years. Or wait four years and they should be all back. They come around every four years. Do what I did. I was on a tall ship (The Silva) touring the harbour and checking out the other tall ships. $25 a person is a bargain for this kind of event. The tour lasted just over an 1 1/2Hrs and they also had activities for the kids. I am still waiting for the pictures. We sent those ones to Toronto for professional processing.

Anyway, gotta go, it is midnight here, hope you will come for the next tall ships

I think it was still a small, local chain back then, comtech. It was his widow that built it up to where is now. In any event, the American involvement is fairly recent.

Comtech, PLEEEAAASSSEEE do some research before posting. You insult the rest of this country. You are already on the net. Do you know how Google works...
its-> www.google.ca, you type in that empty box in the upper middle.
I am not just talking about that timmis comment, I am talking about most of your posts. Canada is not about disinformation. If you want that, move to Quebec or the States.

RESEARCH man, RESEARCH.

Got it, The ship belong to Mr. Ron Joyce, the head of timmis. He called his ship the "Destination Fox Harb'r" And to the best of my knowledge, Mr. Ron Joyce was Mr. Horton's only partner since the beginning. That makes timmis an 100% Canadian Company.

I know that, do you watch the news in French or English. Do you compare the stories. Unless it has changed in the past years, they seldom don't report the same thing on the same subjet.

I generally see less disinformation coming out of Quebec than Alberta.

It was Wendy's they merged with, Mario.
$1:
Perhaps under ownership of the U.S. fast-food chain Wendy's, Tim Hortons is all business and less hockey romance.

Google Tim Horton's, ownership...there are plenty of more links, I just liked the Globe and Mail story.

Both. I also get my news from a variety of foreign sources. Media Bias exists just about everywhere in the world, and one must be an informed information consumer. If you read the same story from 3 or 4 different media outlets and figure out what is common between all of them, you're going to walk away with more fact than opinion, English, French, or any other language for that matter.
