I'm not sure how many people use @canadaka.net email's but at one time I allowed members to create free emails and I still do make the occasiaonal one by request.
Well anyways I've had it with email servers, FUCK THEM UP THE ASS!
I'm sick of dealing with email servers, I have had extremely bad luck with them, from hackers, spammers, hardware failure, you name it.
The last couple of weeks have been particularly bad, I keep the email server at a clients workplace, I didn't want the email server connected to the webserver in anyway for security reasons. Well spammers and hackers have gotten into it recently and the harddrive died. It was back running fine the last couple days, then tonight I applied an update then restarted the server and it wouldn't start back up.
So i'm done with hosting emails, its not worth the hassle.
So instead I am going to migrate all 20-30 domains I host email for over to free 3rd party email hosting. Microsoft first came out with "Live Domains" a couple months ago and its great, specialy for someone like me who has lots of domains. But the downside, and its a big one for me, is there is no POP access to the emails. you have to use the webmail.
But Google followed suit soon after with there "Google Aps" which includes domain email hosting and they allow POP access. The downside to googles solution is there is no central way for me to control multiple domains, so I have to create a new account for each domain. The other downside to the Google is they don't have a "sign up" feature like microsoft does. So an admin has to manualy create every account, you can't have public email signups.
The service is pretty great though, they host the email servers for you, so i don't have to worry about any security, spam or stability problems. They have a great admin interface for managing accounts and mailing lists and you can check your email online with the gmail client.
I have setup the existing email server again temporarily to migrate over to Google over the next week. But I am also going to do some housecleaning, there are 120 @canadaka.net email accounts. Since i have to manualy create each account in the google system I am only going to add accounts that are actualy being used. SO if you have or had an @canadaka.net email account and want to keep it, you need to contact me.
Since all the passwords on the current server and encrypted I cannot reproduce the current passwords, so everyones passwords will be reset.
I will be sending an email out to all the emails later and if the user doesn't respond within a week they will loose there account for now.
If anyone is interested in an @canadaka.net account with the new Google system I will make emails on request.
