This kicks ass.

Canadian Firm to Construct Modular Floating Bridges
$1:
A CANADIAN company involved in the manufacturing of modular floating system bridges made from polypropylene, will soon open a plant in Zambia with an initial capital of US$1 million.

Spirit of the River, which intends to start manufacturing components for bridges in Zambia and exports them to the rest of Africa, will employ 400 Zambians at inception with 14 Canadians already in Lusaka to offer expertise in the area...

...Spirit of the River is also involved in water treatment system using the sand water filtration system that did not require any chemicals.

Mr Schaffer said once the documentation was ready, Spirit of the River would work with water utilities to introduce the new technology.

Starting a business in a poor nation that will actually benefit the nation. As opposed to just exploiting it. You don't hear stories like that every day.

What are the enviormental restrictions like?
What is the safety procedures like?
1 million would not buy much here but there quite abit. Now if this is just a case of helping a smaller nation than good for them all the power to them and I wish them the best of luck.

The products built in Africa are also going to be sold in Africa.

If you are exploiting cheap labour, you are generally selling your product to a rich nation, right? simple math dictates that since the whole transaction is taking place in Africa, as in built in Africa, then sold in Africa... You can only go as far as the African economy will bear. I don't see any exploitng going on, and I'm sure that's what you were implying.

He's basically bringing first world technology to a place it can be applied in the third world.

And he's selling bridges. Not tobacco or 'fire water'...
