Really sorry to hear that TG. Never had pets as a kid, so the ones I've gotten since it was up to me are all still alive, but I am NOT looking forward to the day I have to do what you're doing. Hope your last couple days together are good.

TattoodGirl TattoodGirl:
I think i may have posted a pic of my rescue kitty chaz....he is going to be put down on Monday, I love that fucker to pieces...I have always been a dog person, but one day when i was buying dog food this cat cuddled up to me at the counter and the store people freaked...all of a sudden Chaz was mine....he is 16 and it kills me to put him down cuz i think he is fine but according to the vet and my kids i am blind to the suffering so monday he dies. I know it is sounds better to say put down, but I know I am killing him....and I love the little fucker.

Sorry to hear you're going through this. I had to put my cat down of 15 years last April, it sucks big time. But time does heals all wounds, I thought I'd never get another pet but I can't live in a house without animals they bring so much joy to the place and will probably be getting a dog this summer.

Sorry for your loss Curtman... Such a pretty girl she was! At least she had a good long life though and I'm sure has left you with many great memories. Tough as they get older... mine is going on 18 and is getting very noticeably tired. I know his "time" is coming soon.

He is known as Hector, or more often, 'Hey, Jerk! Get off the table!"

Jackson just had his hair cut, I swear he's only about half as heavy now as he was before:

It is now.

I just took my dog to the all night vet a couple of weeks ago and before they even euthanize the pets now they give them a tranquillizer shot and allow you to hold on to them till they fall asleep. [cry]

You can also be present when they are given the final shot if you so wish. I couldn't do it but I now people who have and they say it's painless and quick now because the pet is already asleep.

Hopefully it's this way for all the pets because I hate to think about any animal suffering unecessarily because of a vet's insensitivity.

15 years ago, when I had to put my dog to sleep, it took as long as it takes to get under for surgery in a hospital. 5 seconds. It went exactly how you describe. Her last look was at a cat (she LOVED to chase cats...). Then she was asleep. They gave her the shot that stopped her heart, and she did not realize it. She died quickly and peacefully. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do...

I'm sorry for your loss [cry]

That is exactly how it worked when I put my Staffordshire terrier, Juno, down. They gave her a tranquilizer then while I was holding her in hy arms, they give her the final shot. Takes about a minute and was one of the hardest things I ever did. :(
