I had heard about this commercial but never saw it til just now. It's the one where the guy is on a stage ranting about how we dont live in igloos and dont say aboot etc. It's pretty sickening that this commercial was so popular amongst canadians. I could see why many canadians would laugh at this commercial. But did u ever ask yourself why this commercial was made? It was made because Canadians got sick of all the stereotypes americans place on us. How pathetic is it that we had to make a commercial just to show that those sterotypes aren't true. Maybe if 75% of our Tv and 95% of our movies weren't american then we wouldn't care. but since we have allowed america to invade and pretty much dominate our popular culture, we are faced with these stereotypes touched on in the commercial all the time.

maybe if we actually stopped depending on america for our popular culture we wouldn't have to reaffirm our own through beer commercial rants.

Why dont you stop worrying about it and crack open a nice frosty Molson. The commercial is now over because as you said, American invasion into our popular culture as well as business enterprises, megers etc. The commercial is supposed to be funny yet patriotic in terms that WE as Canadians are different than Americans. All it is is fun. When I heard it for the first thousand times I admit I got a jolt of patriotism from it but I guess watching it past a thousand times it does get a little tedious.

yes it is a funny commercial. but if u dig deeper and ask yourself why was it funny, why was it made, and why was it so popular, the answers are pretty disturbing.

No not really since its just a made up commercial to promote beer and Canada. If people feel the need to "delve" deeper into the meaning of a beer commercial than by all means do so. If I saw a beer commercial promoting Canada, girls in bikinis, beer, not too many people are going to delve into that one except maybe for the girls. :P

It made the news around the world, it was shown in New Zealand, friends of mine saw it. What does that tell you? Not only Canadians found it interesting.

I don't think it was made to prove stereotypes wrong, I think it was made so that we can laugh at ourselves and talk about how true a lot of it really is. lol

I personally found the commercial to be quite ingenious and extremely funny. I thought it was a great commercial.

I've seen the commercial many times, and find it ingenious. It did stir up a lot of talk of Canadian identity around the world. Molson commercials in general are witty, comical, and intriguing. I even enjoy the slightly sophmoric, playful theme of It Starts Here. And, as an American, Molson has a much better taste than the mass market American beers.

On a sadder note, Molson isn't so much Canadian anymore, as it is a joint venture with Coors. It is even more frustrating, for me as a progressive liberal, that Coors contributes so heavily to the Republican Party. So, in essence, when you buy a Molson, some of your dollars are going to the Company's political machine and the CEO. So, indirectly, you are supporting a company that contributes heavily to George W Bush. How Canadian is that?

Well, it was a kick ass commercial, because when you think about it, it's been off the air for a few years now and we're still talking about it. Ahh, exploiting Canadian pride to sell beer :)

You are right, the commercial has been off the air for quite some time and we still talk about it. I will be in a bar here in Ohio and bring it up, and people will bring it up when they see me with a Molson.

Of course, I truly appreciate La Fin Du Monde and Maudite, the deeper, more intense beers of La Belle Province.
