I may be posted to Edm this APS and I'm trying to figure out where to buy. Looking at the MLS and I'm thinking Gibbons or Morinville. Opinions???

Both Gibbons and Morinville are close the the base. Fort Saskatchewan is also a fairly short ride, as is the north-central part of Edmonotn. But housing can be a little pricier inside the city limits. The PMQ's at CFB Griesbah are also being converted to public housing, so they can be had for a deal.

St Albert isn't a bad commute ethier, and Sherwood Park are about 1/2 hour drive, mostly highway, as well.

Morinville is essentially next door to the base, maybe a 10 minute drive. If you want a place in the city, Castledowns (167 Avenue) and Castle Brook (178 Avenue) are also pretty close, both being close to 97th Street/Hwy 28. Castle Brook is as close as Morinville, if not closer...you might find a cheaper place in the Londonderry area (144 Avenue/66 street) as well.

St. Albert and Sherwood Park tend to be more expensive places to live as a lot of professionals (doctors. lawyers, engineers, etc) buy big homes there. My friend just bought a slightly larger than average house in St. Albert for $325,000!

I guess it all depends on whether price or location is more important to you...

I'm definitely looking outside the city. Being a poor soldier, my finances are limited :) so I don't think I'll be buying in St Albert. I'm still leaning toward Gibbons, but I'm finding a bunch of little towns on the North side of the city that I'm kind of interested in. What is in Morinville??? I've heard a bunch of different stories, some say it's just a bedroom community, while others tell me there's lots there.

Don't know about Gibbons. But I know a bit about Bon Accord. The tax base took a hit when the grain elevator(s?) were torn down. The burden was shifted onto the homeowners and it was a big increase.

Is Redwater/Legal too far out?

I was just looking at Legal. It looks like about 30 - 45 minute drive..is that about right? I live about 20 min from Cold Lake right now, so I don't mind a little commute. How big is Bon Accord???

IIRC just under 1,000. Usual small town Alberta facilities, maybe less now. It's been a while since I was there. My friends like it, the drive to Garrison isn't a burden for him. She works for the RCMP downtown Edm and doesn't care for that drive too much. They thought pretty highly of the school. Nice house, nice neighbourhood, but no idea of house prices.

Thanks brother...my HHT is going to be a fucking nightmare if I don't get my poop in a group I'm trying to balance my wife's interest in proximity to a major shopping centre, with my deep-seated dislike of having neighbours.
