What I disagree with is the comments about if other allies won't step up we should go home. Sort of like if others aren't going to play we are going to take our ball and go home. I know liberals on this forum have accused conservatives of being like that so certainly they wouldn't be like that themselves.

I was reading in "The Province" yesterday, that a joint Conservative/Liberal senate delegation to Afghanistan has unanimously recommended

I just thought I'd point out a bit you left off.

The fact that they were unanimous was covered by my comment that they were all equally culpable.

You missed my questions. Where were they 6 years ago?
Where was the "sober second thought" when our PM put us in a war?

You don't think we should be in Afghanistan?
Dodge?

Gawd, you guys are just too partisan for words.

We should have been in Afghanistan years before we were... and you're suggesting the Senate should have objected 6 years ago?
On what grounds?

Please.. credit where credit is due.

We entered the Afghan conflict in 2001/2002, under John Chretien. We are a founding member of NATO and this is a nato operation so our participation was expected. Here's the CBC news clip but there is no mention of what we were doing there or what our mission was. Don't you think these compassionate and attentive senators should have known about this? Don't you think they should have said something.. before the Conservatives came into power?

CBC 2001

As you may have read, I have retracted my comments on Norway because have a small population but:

Country--------Standing army-------Afghan commitment------Casualties
Canada--------64,000-----------------992------------------------44
France--------138,000-----------------742-------------------------9
Italy----------112,000-----------------506-------------------------9
Germany-----250,000----------------1816------------------------14
Spain----------77,000------------------551------------------------19
UK------------107,730------------------461------------------------46
USA-----------488,579------------------297------------------------89

I didn't even include Norway, and I resolved them because they are a very small country.

But look at Germany and France, with huge standing armies, reasonable troop levels but they are hidden away where they are ineffective.

The undercurrents on ARMY.CA is that most CDF troops feel this is the way they pay for all those decades of not pulling our weight in Nato. They grumble about the others but they don't complain.

The bitching that these senators are hearing isn't comming from the people who know, but from the people who don't but should.

You keep forgetting the unanimous part, ridenrain, so quit trying to make this anti-Liberal.

Your numbers could be spun any of several different ways, so unless you wish to make a point,.....

Please show that these senators were evenly spread across the political spectrum an dwhere they got their experiences from. Wasn't this the group that sat in Aubu-Dabi $200/night hotels rooms, surfing the Globe & mail at the side of the pool?

Why should we listen to these temporaty spectators instead of the people who were there?

Prove you're case.
You get no credit for sniping at a distance here.

Why didn't these empassioned senators take this vital trip, and ask these bighting questions before? You can say exactly the same for the CBC and the rest of the Canadian media.
Canadian soldiers died before the Conservative party took over, if you can believe that.

An innuendo lands like a raindrop in a storm. That's why Iceowl's comments are often indistingushable from noise.

Do you want to suggest where these senators were more than a year ago?

Would you like to answer why we only hear from senators when there is a conservative government?

Dropping unfounded innuendoes is a lot more fun... and a heck of a lot easier.

Do you have a case or cause or are you just noise?
I have shown by facts that a great number of NATO coalition forces are wimps.

If you have a point, please state it, and defend it with facts.

Nothing comes from easy, or voting liberal.

SO... maybe some of you military genious's can explain why anyone is even in Afghanistan. What are we huntin for over there anyhow?

- Terrorists?
- Waskily wabbits?
- Saddam?
- random rabid arabs?
- mountain goats?
- civilians that resemble terrorists.. that must be terrorists, even if they are not.

This is a serious question, so I would appreciate a serious answer. Things have been a little confusing in the news lately. So many enemies... can't keep track of them all.

I heard that this year was the annual Taliban sniper shoot, and I was wondering if they were going to add this into the next Olympics as an official event? The US and UK were also in full support, but for some reason Afganistan seems to be having a hard time in appreciating this fine sport. Dumb-ass arabs wouldn't know anything about having a little fun at their expense... they keep whining about their civilians being labeled as "insurgents" when they are just getting pissed off cause they don't know their place in OUR empire. The quicker they get their shit together and accept the fact that we are here to stay for a while, and that their shit is OUR shit now... the better off they will be. It's not like their country was any good before we got their anyhow... sure we shot up the place, and killed a whole shitload of people... Not our fault. Afghanistan shouldn't have sent those crazies over on the planes to mess up our fine buildings. STupid sand-jiggys got what they had comin.

Sorry. looks like their blood is much more valuable:

$1:
As of February 10, 2007, there have been 458 coalition deaths in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF): 297 American, 46 British, 44 Canadian, 19 Spanish, 18 German, 9 French, 9 Italian, 4 Dutch, 4 Romanian, 3 Danish, 2 Swedish, 1 Australian, 1 Norwegian, and 1 Portuguese.

Funny how the Europeans get all the flak for wimping out, justifiably so, but those brave Australians who the National Post constantly tells us we should try and emulate have had fewer casulaties than anyone
