Go figure, someone trying to turn the murder of four cops by a Canadian into a US or border control issue.

Guns don't kill people...remember that old saying? Well it's true.

He could have killed those cops with a pistol or a shotgun or a bomb just as easily as with that rifle he had. And also the gun registry didn't keep him from obtaining that gun. Those cops were all young and knowing the guy they were dealing with, there was a big lack of judgement leaving them there, all bunched up in that building where it was easy for that maddog to get them.

No. A nut bar killed four RCMP officers. It was a special kind of nut bar though; a kind that most people in law enforcement love to hate and hate to love. The guy had to be a rat. I've known a few of the beasts and he exactly fits the pattern. He buys a little, sells a little, grows a little, steals a little and poaches when he can. He goes on about how macho he is and how much he hates the cops, but he's on the line to Crime Stoppers every day and every time the police try to take him down if he can't get out of it by ratting out a few of his friends on the spot he manages to do it later through his lawyer. He raises ugly dogs and some other foul beast, either snakes, spiders or something equally nasty. He gets a welfare cheque and has a brood of dirty children one of which is always out of school for fighting or having lice. If he lives in a house there are cars and parts thereof all over the yard. The police think they have him tamed, but they're young and stupid and one day he'll take a few of them out. Yeah, he lives just down the street from all of us, and the next time he kills we'll all be just as surprised-not.

Holy crap! Canada has a Republican!

I think Roszko was a time-bomb waiting to happen and if he didn't get his guns from the States, he would've gotten other guns by other means.

However, without his automatic weapons, maybe those four boys would still be alive today.

Automatic weapons have been illegal in the USA since 1934 and an odd result of the 1994 ban on semi-automatic weapons was a marked increase in full-automatic weapons being smuggled into the USA. Some are coming in from Eastern Europe but the overwhelming majority of the full-auto weapons coming in illegally are coming in from China via Mexico.

Perversely, the areas with the tightest gun laws have the highest amount of gun crimes and illegally smuggled weapons are increasing in numbers as legal weapons become more difficult to obtain.

We can't keep out drugs any more than we can keep out guns or illegal aliens from Mexico.

Maybe this movementto secure the US-Mexico border will inadvertently make Canada safer.

I hope so.

My deep and sincere condolences regarding the RCMP boys.

QBC,

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and one of those stones is the gun registry.

It was envisioned that the gun registry would work in a manner such that when the police arrived at a residence, the database would indicate to them how many rifles etc, were located at the house so they could adequately prepare themselves and/or seize the rifles after an arrest etc, etc, etc.

Nothing too bad in the premise right?

How the whole thing became a 2 billion dollar mess probably won't ever be truly known (since Chretien had his majority and didn't need to satiate the public with an inquiry), but in defence of the government, it DID start out with honourable intentions.

Otherwise, I agree with your notions of gun-control. A fucking nut killed those four boys two months ago. Guns or no guns, he had some serious issues.

In the USA the Supreme Court ruled that criminals do not have to register their weapons as they would incriminate themselves by doing so. Thus we do not pay much attention to gun registry ideas as criminals do not have to register.

Of course this is a border issue. Our border controls are so slack anybody can sneak in with drugs, guns or illegal immigrants.

The rifle that was used to kill the RCMP officers was a stolen, unregistered weapon, never registered in Canada. I wonder where it came from?

You guys don't want "intergration" with the US. Time to tighten up our borders then eh?
