EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Well, lets face it, not too many Quebecois will be cheering for the monarchy. Me, I can go either way. The Irish in me says one thing and the Brit in me says another.

How bout the Canadian way.

The only thing I have against Charles is that I think he's gotten too cozy with the environmentalist crowd. Other than that he appears to be more than acceptable as next in line. When he didn't even flinch on an overseas trip when some nut with a starter pistol got on the stage with him shows that he's got ice-water in his veins too, and that's a good trait for any leader (even a mostly figurehead one).

Wrong! The Queen of Canada is the Head of State.

To most Canadians, she/he/it will always be a foreign monarch regardless on what's said on a piece of paper. In fact, it was parliament which did most of the British empires dealings and expansion so...sorry, no Kingy, Queen in this country.

Maybe but I still don't want him on my 20 dollar bill. Shudder....

I don't know GreenTiger. Being the Sovereign has its advantages, even if you're only 1/300,000,000 of the sovereign.

Don't care.

Obviously you wouldn't. Kind of like that oath uttered at the Canadian citizenship ceremony.
She's stated pretty clearly in the past that she doesn't ever plan on becoming a Canadian citizen, so she won't lose her Dutch citizenship.

Oh well, not like there is any difference between a permanent resident and a citizen here in this country...

Heh! LOL! Even the best currency portrait artists will have their work cut out for them for not making Charles look like a MAD magazine caricature.

Apparently the Brits released a special wedding coin that makes Kate Middleton look like Rosie O'Donnell. Good metal carvers must be hard to find over there these days.

Voting is the only real difference and there are plenty of citizens that don't vote.

Nothing. Everything I've read about him shows that he is personally involved in his causes, whether it is preservation of historical buildings to sustainable development, which he experiments with in his own lands. He also thumbed his nose at the Chinese, declaring he didn't dine with tyrants when Jiang Zemin visited the UK. Charles only black mark was he was assigned a vapid broodmare who shared none of his interests, and he was too public about it(the press in yesteryear wouldn't have made much it)

Agreed. I think he'll make a fine King.

I'll disagree. The nonsense with Diana I think was serious enough that many
would be unhappy to see Charles on the throne.

Best thing he could do would be to abdicate and install William asap.

I wonder if the powers that be have these types of conversations ?

Nope, Charlie is probably more concerned with the balance of his Purdy's.

The Diana debacle was more to widen the gene pool in the royal family.

Charles will make a good king.
