What do you guys think should be done about Kyoto? Should our government attempt to join back into th agreement, or continue to defy it?

How about the Asian Pacific patnership? Is this the way to go for Canadian foreign policy on the environment?

What are the reasons we have not joined Kyoto? I don't know anything about the other partnership so can't comment.

no one who actually signed kyoto met their goals. yet america is critisized for not signing.

We didn't sign it because we knew we couldn't meet the goals. Yet we are bashed and trashed for actually be honest about it.

meanwhile California has lead the way, and has lead the world in carbon reducing legislation.

but who cares, America is still evil because we didn't sign!! shame on us for not being liars!

Kyoto was a farce from the beginning.

Technically we did. Or rather the LIBRANOs did but did nothing. Like Australia's new government ratified KYOTO and within hours refused the onerous consequences.
Main reason: The best solution to a non-existant problem is to do nothing.
All the GW hype was a minor warming from an EL NINO in 1998---a decade ago.

KYOTO is now a part of history like the "Gun Powder Plot."

I am going to ahve to disagree with most of these posts thus far.
The Liberals did sign Kyoto and did nothing about it, UNFORTUNATELY.
If we do not meet our targets, there will be negative implications.
Many EU countries are well on their way to meeting targets(not eastern countries, western).
Quebec have also surpassed Kyoto targets.

I do not understand mtbr's comment about distributing wealth from west to east. How does Kyoto do this?

The conservatives have been taking more initiative than the liberals did in 12 years.

How will developing countries, who constantly reply on a full-throttle economy, be able to sell off their carbon credits to first world economies? They ahve the factories. We have the office buildings. Can someone explain this to me?

No doubt that is because you haven't a clue about KYOTO.
KYOTO for dummies.
Shut down all industry in developed countries and force them to buy Carbon credits from developing nations for unrestricted polluting industries and rain-forest devastation (production of biofuels). And have the process administered by the UN (global government by corrupt 3rd world bureaucrats---the OIL FOR FOOD crowd).
Any questions?
CO2 AGW is a HOAX to promote this scam.

In fact...isn't the guy who was behind Kyoto (Maurice Strong) on the run now, because he was implicated in some fraud to do with the UN oil for food scam. Seems to me I read that somewhere.

Oh yeah baby!
Here's the quick and dirty flow chart.

As for Kyoto: Stick a fork in it because it's done like Dion.

What's really rich is the Carbon credits the eurocrats, who helped Strong design KYOTO, awarded themselves on the flimsiest of pretexts.
To entice Russia to sign onto KYOTO, Russia was awarded carbon Credits for the dirty industry shut down after the collapse of the USSR. Then britain was awarded CCs for cutting British beef consumption (HUH????). This was the result of the culling re the BSE hysteria incited by the same eurocrats. Can anyone explain how the contents of the British menu affects climate???? Or are CCs awarded for political Correctness. Would Canada get CCs for ending the seal hunt????
However the US proposal to forest large areas for CCs was rejected because that is not the way it works. That would have the US economy continue and the USA would not have to pay extortion to the UN for CCs.
