I'm not sure how much of this you've heard about but, it's something everyone should at least learn about. The media isn't really covering it though a lot of concern has recently been raised by reporters on CNN and abroad.
For a background on the North American Union, use this link:

If you want to see some clips on this, here's a couple:

Any thoughts? Did you have any idea these plans were in the works?

Yes, I knew about this awhile ago, since it was posted here awhile ago.
I am strongly against any union between the countries.

Damn. Sorry, for the repost. I couldn't find another one.
I'm with you though; no NA Union!

S'all right. It's impossible to truly see if there is a topic that has been touched before. I hate necroposting more than reposting a story.

Back in the 70s I had a T Shirt the read “Continentalism is Treason – Drive US Imperialism From Canada”
Good to see that you not only propose new CTs, but are environmentally aware enough to recycle the old ones.

Are you really suggesting that this is a Conspiracy Theory? Come on now, you can't be serious?

I'm actually referring to the broader context. In the interim, all cross border cooperation and unification of defence logisitics, information gathering/sharing migration policies/standards etc etc are a good thing. This type of cooperation has saved Canada billions in defence alone by downloading our obligations on the US.

Yes I am strongly against a Union as well. For several reasons.
All the same I'm not too worried, I don't think there's a soul in Canada who wants to be part of their mock democracy, even Harper.

I'm not sure any of those souls you mention will have a say in it one way or ther other, including Harper. I mean, the planning has gone on this long without a peep from the media or the Government for that mater. Some people have been reporting and trying to expose this for 10 years or more and it's now only making mainstream.
NAFTA Super highway. Amero. National ID cards, which the states will put into effect in 2008 and the chance of Canadians having to possess these as well just to enter the US. All this wonderful stuff planned to a tee and most people don't have a clue about any of it.

Don't have a clue or don't care to think about it? We don't get a lot of coverage because the story does not generate a lot of interest. It's a perpetual cycle and for most is as enthralling as watching paint dry or doing taxes. Even BMD didn't generate THAT much interest.
Now if there was a law passed tomorrow that we are getting rid of the dollar and adopting the American currency that might cause a more of a rift. That's tangible, people can see that but when your talking more boarder security, RFID tags and FTAA people just tune out. X-files style conspiracies are so 1990's, if you want their attention get Kiefer on 24 to say your in danger and you'll get action.

Wait so let me get this straight...
OH NO THEY'RE STANDARDIZING MEAT INSPECTION PRACTICES!
Honestly? Who the hell cares?
Lets see some others... US intends to build a highway to mexico... some Kansas City report to run a trade hub through kansas city (thats surprising)... that the highway system between the US, canada, and mexico happen to connect to each other, and not only that, go through major cities...
a publication where they seem to have missed this quote in the first paragraph
$1: THE COUNCIL TAKES NO INSTITUTIONAL POSITION ON POLICY ISSUES ANDHASNOAFFILIATIONWITHTHEU.S.GOVERNMENT.ALLSTATEMENTS OF FACT AND EXPRESSIONS OF OPINION CONTAINED IN ITS PUBLICATIONS ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHOR OR AUTHORS.
that the leaders of the three nations meet each other on occassion, and that they intend to make it easier to cross the borders....
Why should I care?

Everytime that this subject comes up on some US based discussion board, I counter with this idea............
OK lets meld the two countries together, BUT, lets drop the US consitution and the bill of rights and adopt the Canadian laws in stead ?
This results is a huge amount of screaming and slobbering, ending with the words N O !!!!
Then I say...................So now you Americans can understand why WE Canadians are not really interested in being submerged in the USA. WE kind of LIKE being our own nation, and wouldn't even think of a joint/melded country.
Its funny how putting the shoe on the other foot seems to get their attention.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Personally, this is the main reason I hate Stephan Harper.
I was told that Stephan would sell Canada to America about a month before elections, and they were right.
Actually, it doesn't seem like selling, we are going free.
I heard they were implementing this on Canada Day, 2008, at noon.
The Day Canada becauses the 51st State........ Another Country for the Empire of Yankland.
Damnit!
Vive le Canada!
Actually Paul Martin began the talks about the union, though yes Harper would be the one to accept the deal. It is unclear if he will, I could see this happen 20 years from now but don't see this working in the near future.

Actually, you're the one who sold out Canada.
You consume its culture, entertainment, products, diet and have for the most part, even adopted its accent rendering you virtually indistinguishable from an American.
I would hazzard to bet that you even know more about the USA then the average American.
But maybe that is the Canadian identity? Like a chameleon we adapt to the environment around us to preserve our State.
