The U.S. constitution has separation between church and state in its constitution while Canada does not. Do you believe it would be a good idea to include this in our charter?

It would be better to scrap our whole constitution and rewrite it. However this provision as you suggested should be added.

Why do we need to scrap our whole constitution?

The government has too much power. It lacks a sense of liberty and personal responsibility for the people.

That's because Trudeau disliked British Common law which the americans wisely entrenched in their constitution.....things like the right to own property and so on.

The Charter of no rights nor freedoms----

Because a constitution should be about limiting the actions of government, not providing special rights to the people.

On a similar topic:

Should the CofE be disestablished as the state church now that it has been found the more RCs go to church than Anglicans?

Yes, of course - it's because of the CofE being the state church that Roman Catholics cannot become the monarch. Today that's an anachronism.

No it does not, the U.S. constitution says that the Gov. shall not establish a national religion. An example being the church of England. What your quoteing is a supreme court justices brief on the ruleing about religion being tought in public schools.

Only in Great Britain. In Canada that vast body of Laws compiled over one thousand years, including the Magna Carta were repealed/replaced by the ill-concieved Canadian Constitution.

Correct. This only applies in the UK. But it is destabilizing. The RCs (15% of the population) clearly don't hold with the CofE as state church and neither for the matter do the Scots or the Welsh.

The constitution was patriated by Trudeau.. brought home to be our own. still based mostly on English common law.. also based on Christian values, which this country was founded on.. there should be no interfernce in law by any religious group. but the foundation of the Canadian Constitution should remain.. how is it (one wonders) westerners blame everthing on Trudeau... ? one also wonders if all the countries current ills will be blamed on Harper.? We have to keep and cherish our constitution. allowing minorities who immigrate to force change is a dangerous path to go down..

Huh? A constitution should protect the citizenry (both individuals and groups) from the government. In fact, minority rights are also cornerstone of the modern constitutional nation-state.

But today, not all Canadians r Christian, some 5 millions don't believe in God at all, others r Jews, other Muslims, others hindus, others Buddhist & so on.
So it'll be better to separate church & state & let everyone to practice his religion as he wants.

A constitution should guarantee the same liberties for all its citizens not grant majority and minority rights and exceptions.
