I agree, it would have been a bold political move by Martin if he went ahead with the trip anyway and Harper brought the house down while he was away. Martin would have looked much better than showing up a day late and a penny short instead. I can't bring myself to blame Layton for this one though, he had little say in the matter.

Layton can be blamed. Imagine the arguments you could make against all other party leaders for showing up late. Layton has the money. He didn't go cause right now he's in Martins back pocket. As I stated earlier he made a good deal but at the wrong time.

Layton acted in accordance of the interests of his party but he had nothing to do with the timing, the budget did that. Again, it was the Con/Bloc saber rattling that forced Martin to offer Layton the deal to keep the house from coming down. I really don't see what else Martin could have done to save the Parliament. Clearly Belinda is a pretty face and effective window dressing to get votes but she does not represent the conservative caucus, Harper does.

The bottom line is that the house was going to come down any way so why try to pass this right now. I want to see the buget pass but I don't want to have the Liberals running the country at this time. They have been found ineffective by there own people and now the story is comming out. We knew this was coming. Look at the last election and the past history of minority governments in this country. It was predicted that this govt wouldn't last 6-12 months. It was displayed for days by all media.

There has been only one minority govt that has lasted it's full term. That was MacKenzie King in 1921 -1925, this was only because he was 1 seat short of a majority. Every other minority has disolved within 6 months, with the shortest being 1 month.

The history of the liberals in minority govts always ends up with them using another party (and since 1974 it's been the NDP) to gain the votes they need. After everything is said and done they'll just push the NDP to the way side and work for there own intrests.

"SHIT CAN ALL 4 OF THEM! PDT_Armataz_01_19 PDT_Armataz_01_35 PDT_Armataz_01_19"

I love the term"shit can" [cheer]

I too agree we have a pretty sad crop of leaders in this country.
That seems to me to be a big problem with the country today. There isn't really any dynamic go-getter types that can bring people together and run the country in a positive way.

Harper - Sucks
Martin - Sucks
Duceppe -Sucks
Layton - I'm somewhat impressed with him, he just looks really scary and wierd (like Harper)

Is Stephen Harper for real with that hair do? It looks like he trys to make it look like a wig. I know thats a trivial thing to worry about in a politician, but maybe a professional stylist would help. maybe Jack Layton could steal his wig so he'd have some hair.

This was only going to happen when the Cons and the Bloc made their deal, not before. Harper has made his bed now he will have to lie in it. What you or I want is not the same as what can pass in the house. The Gomery inquiry has not finished and I see no good reason to call an election to get yet another minority. All this shows is the Conservatives are impatient for power. The Liberals have given the Conservatives a win on a silver platter come spring of 2006 when clearly the Gomery inquiry will publicly hang the Liberals. At that time the Liberals can and should be judged on their record. To do so now only shows that facts mean nothing and perception is everything. Majorities can be ignored so long as personal power can be achieved. We must always be wary of corruption in government but we must not be seduced by puritan witch hunts giving credibility to radical agendas that would weaken the central government to the point were it would be helpless to put down popular insurrections. We must be Canadian 1st and keep our eye on that ball.

What is to gain from an election twice in one year? Does anyone believe with the Bloc having a lock on 60 seats that anything but a minority government is going to happen? The Conservatives have to make a deal with the devils to form their own government and if they do this will be the last government we will have as Canadians, do we want that? Interrupting Gomery in the middle of the inquiry is like interrupting a surgeon in the middle of an operation. Let the man do his work for all our sakes.

I agree punt them all.

I also agree with Stronach instead of Harper he is an ass. I like the way she handles herself and wish she would have been granted the opportunity to show she is smarted and more tackfull then Harpoon Harper.

How about this:

Scott Brison instead of Paul Martin.

If the libs lose the election, maybe Martin will step down. Brison is what this country needs. He wasn't around for the sponsorship scandal (he crossed the floor in 2003, as you may remeber) so we know his hands are clean. He wants to cut needless government spending while sending more money to health care and the military. He also would lower taxes. He's also fairly leftist when it comes to social issues (he's openly gay). I watch this guy in parliment all the time. He is witty, charismatic, young, maintains a professional and not creepy(coughlaytonmartinharperduceppecough) appearance.
