An Angus Reid poll says that 64% of Canadians are in favour of granting them asylum, and a motion passed in our own Parliament...you know that democratically elected body...a motion calling for the government to halt all deportation orders.

Whaddyer all think? Personally I'm in favour of letting them stay. Just because you sign on the dotted line and volunteer doesn't mean you're forced to abandon your own personal moral compass and sense of conscience...or at least I don't think so.

But when you do sign on the dotted line and join the military you have to know there is a chance you will be called to action. I would feel differently if they were drafted, but not when they vulunteered. If morally you oppose a military's purpose, don't join to begin with. So I say send the deserters back to face the consequences.

They wanted the benefits of military life, without the consequences.

As much as I disagreed with the Vietnam war draft dodges at least they had the courage of their convictions, whatever they may have been.

Send them home.

The reality is that they should be thankful that their Government shut down Fort Leavenworth Army prison.

I stand corrected, it would appear that it is still in operation, so I really hope they enjoy their stay there.

Although given that the US hasn't signed onto declarations about war crimes, maybe they're not from the perspective of the US military.

That makes no sense. You joined the military to fight and kill other people. If your moral compass had no qualms of signing that contract before the war, then you should face the consequences.

Were any of these soldiers asked to partake in this? How about they do the right thing and report these violations instead of running with their tail between their legs. If you witness a woman getting assaulted do you move to a new apartment so you don't see the assault anymore?
