The Friends of Science thing...I guess Harper is still backing third party advertising. The Ottawa municipal election.bribing a candidate. These bizarre missives that Vic Toews keeps sending me...ooops, not technically a scandal, just that I resent having to pay for Conservative sloganeering with my tax money. Vic should pay for his own damned stamps.

What else? Afghan prisoners. Bernier being an idiot. NAFTAgate. The Cadman Affair. Lukiwski's homophobia. What the Harperites have done to the committee process and general parliamentary proceedings is likely the most scandalous of all.

The Harperites on here can bleat all they want. The truth is that you are at least as dirty as the Liberals, and were elected to be cleaner.

The Liberals tended to get into scandals over pure old greed or their own incompetence. The Conservatives tend to get into scandals for trying to undermine democracy.

I thought I should expand on the Vic Toews thing a bit because, while not technically a scandal, it exhibits the complete lack of respect the Conservatives have for our democracy and demonstrates they skirt the edge of legality for political gain.

Toews' riding is next door to mine. I've been here for more than eighteen years, and the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives have never sent me anything accidentally. My NDP MP, Bill Blaikie, has announced he's not running again though and the demographics of the riding have been shifting a bit, and suddenly I'm getting these twisted little pamphlets from Vic Toews.

Now, normally, I'd just write that off as over-zealous electioneering by a man who has already admitted to breaking Manitoba election laws.

The thing is that these twisted little pamphlets ask for a response. They aren't governmental, and they aren't from my local representative, but they ask for a response. They basically amount to childish push-polls of the type that the Harper government likes to push during campaigns. The return address isn't Conservative Party headquarters though. It's Parliament that the responses go back to.

The postage is paid for by you and I.

When I want to contribute to a political party, I generally get out my chequebook and/or volunteer. I don't think I should have to support a party I don't agree with because they accidentally-on purpose decided they might might be able to pick up some votes here.

Ah yes, moral advice from a book that condones child abuse and genocide, along with many other questionable pastimes.

In the interests of the separation of church and state, I think we should maybe stick to political sins for now. If we start talking about the immorality of the Conservative Party according to Christian standards, we're going to have to get into that whole camel and eye of the needle thing, and that became tiresome years ago.

Wrong book, I believe you are referring to the Old Testament, while my quote was from the new.

It was the spirit of the quote I was trying to convey though.

This thread has the potential to become the longest thread that makes us losing our sense of humor. But it also has the potential to become the thread that makes us more cynical.

How far back are we going? This is one of my favorites.

Jaffer says 'sorry' but won't resign

I loved when This Hour has 22 Minutes spoofed that with Rick Mercer singing "Will the real Rahim Jaffer please stand up" (sung to the music of Eminem's Slim Shady).

Too ban they didn't make light of the huge smear campaign against Grewal. The Liberals threw absolutely everything they had against him and his Dosange bribery tapes and nothing stuck.
Guess they got a phone call from the PMO telling them that they'd get soapstone upside the head if they used that one.

Announcing the departure of the General Rick Hillier as soon as they learned that the RCMP was storming their party headquarter. This is in itself a Conservatives misdeed. They have used the army to "crowd out" an electoral-fraud investigation.

There was not RCMP raid because this is not an RCMP investigation.
This is an Elections Canada investigation about the ongoing lawsuit between the CPC. An investigation they may have already tainted when they leaked news of this event to the media.

Rick has done his time and I can't imagine that his choice was, or could be influenced by Harper.
That's a very unique perspective you got there.

"The RCMP were at the party's downtown Ottawa offices at the request of Elections Canada to assist in executing a search warrant."

So would you say that:

to assist in executing a search warrant

is just a bit different than:

$1:
the RCMP was storming their party headquarter

?

From you're inflammatory tone, one would get the idea that you're trying to make this look worst than it actually is.

The personal of the office were running down the staircase to get away like if there was a terror attack.
