First Question:
How did a thread about Ipperwash end up being a discussion about My Junk?
BTW, I was also in Ipperwash, and it was rare for us to run across old Dudley when he didn't have some form of long gun in his hand, or on the seat of his vehicle. We spoke with him on numerous occasions, and I agree with Penetrator, he wasn't the model citizen he is being made out to be. Although he was often quite personable, and we shared quite a few laughs, he was definitely a bandit.
OK, please allow me to wade in here, and sort the fly shit out of the pepper.
Having seen the video, I feel I can offer some answers.
1. Lily: Varley was taller than Ferguson by about 8 inches. He outweighed Ferguson by about 20 - 30 lbs. (personal guess, judging from the video)
2. Although commonly perfomed by most Constables, it is my understanding that removing your sidearm was not "SOP" for rural detachments, due to the fact that they are the only armed Police for several hundred km's. As I understand it, however, this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back, and forced the removal of duty arms in cell blocks to become policy for RCMP across Canada.
3. As soon as Varley was uncuffed, he punched Ferguson in the face. For the entire scuffle, Ferguson was struggling to remain conscious. As soon as he got sprayed, the Commissionaire on duty outside the cell locked the cell block door, and stood back to watch the show. It was not until Varley ripped the baton off Ferguson's duty belt that he get shot. He initially tried to get his pistol while Ferguson was partially concious, however, the holster functioned properly, and Ferguson (although only semi-conscious) perfomed his weapons retention drills.
OK now. Penetrator, get your mind off my package, and quit picking on Lily.
