Who cares if this has gone a little off topic? It fits into a larger theme of police shootings.

I sincerely doubt that Ferguson went out of his way to murder Varley. I haven't anything to back that up, but I can believe that Ferguson fucked up by bringing his gun into the cell area, chaos ensued, things happened very quickly and the end result was Varley being shot twice.

Ferguson does bear responsibility by bringing his gun into the cell area. Had he followed regulations, there wouldn't have been a shooting period. However, forensics did bear out Ferguson's side of the story in placing individuals where he said they were.

It's such a grey area....

Was Varley a criminal? Was he practicing for just such an occasion?

Did I say he was practicing? [hockey]

this does indeed seem to be the only point you can argue
-------------------------------------

Who except you is arguing? You lost all credibility as far as I am concerned with your initial holster comment? Stick to your "free the criminals, condemn the police" attitudes.

Sorry - I guess I should have seen that for the random pointless comment that it was.
My bad.
---------------------------------------------------

Pointless to you in the comfort of your house while officers are out on the street, sworn to protect you, not knowing who is going to come at them in any incident they deal with, that persons state of mind, physical condition or weapons carried, you should put on a gun sometime and go to a few calls. See how pointless the fact that people are learning how to defeat the holsters safety measures is to you then. [but]

It is well know that criminals are practicing in an effort to defeat these safety measures,

OK dear, never did I say Varley trained to remove weapons from holsters (not the ceromonial ones like you indicated, which as I added are completely unsafe for patrol duty) All I said was that it is well known that criminals are learning how to defeat the current ones. Curious Lil, what would you have done?

I would have removed my gun as per regulations before entering the cell
-------------------------------------------------------

of course you would of, you have NEVER taken a short cut in your professional life, for the 100 000 times that someone goes in a cell block with their belt on this happens, I could have called you a skank, but that is not me, I did not think dear would wind you up, but hey, I have not told you to shut up either

The ONE time a cop enters the cell with his gun
--------------------------------------------------------------------

How do you know it is the one time?? Trust me happens all the time, is it right?? No, is it a shortcut?? Yes, at 3 am, when you are dragging your ass around a night shift do you take shortcuts?? Oh yeah [boxing]

Large to small, that would probably be the difference between my monstorous equipment to the poor excuse for a hammer Chopper has been cursed with [boff] (In your face Chopper)

First Question:

How did a thread about Ipperwash end up being a discussion about My Junk? PDT_Armataz_01_36

BTW, I was also in Ipperwash, and it was rare for us to run across old Dudley when he didn't have some form of long gun in his hand, or on the seat of his vehicle. We spoke with him on numerous occasions, and I agree with Penetrator, he wasn't the model citizen he is being made out to be. Although he was often quite personable, and we shared quite a few laughs, he was definitely a bandit.

OK, please allow me to wade in here, and sort the fly shit out of the pepper.

Having seen the video, I feel I can offer some answers.

1. Lily: Varley was taller than Ferguson by about 8 inches. He outweighed Ferguson by about 20 - 30 lbs. (personal guess, judging from the video)

2. Although commonly perfomed by most Constables, it is my understanding that removing your sidearm was not "SOP" for rural detachments, due to the fact that they are the only armed Police for several hundred km's. As I understand it, however, this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back, and forced the removal of duty arms in cell blocks to become policy for RCMP across Canada.

3. As soon as Varley was uncuffed, he punched Ferguson in the face. For the entire scuffle, Ferguson was struggling to remain conscious. As soon as he got sprayed, the Commissionaire on duty outside the cell locked the cell block door, and stood back to watch the show. It was not until Varley ripped the baton off Ferguson's duty belt that he get shot. He initially tried to get his pistol while Ferguson was partially concious, however, the holster functioned properly, and Ferguson (although only semi-conscious) perfomed his weapons retention drills.

OK now. Penetrator, get your mind off my package, and quit picking on Lily. [wedgie]
