First of all, I defend my comment that the newbie attitude Stymiest exhibits will wear off. I've seen it dozens of times before; it always wears off- the one time it didn't, boy ran off to the American military, and is in Iraq. He now hates the military.

I'll reiterate my argument that Canadians can immediately slacken our need for oil (thereby lessening demand world-wide, and alleviating some of the damage being done to already fragile developing economies) by using public transit, walking or biking, carpooling, ect. So much gas is wasted by us everyday (some much of everything is wasted by us everyday) that if we change in small ways, we can impact the world in big ways.

There is also no reason why some alt energy methods can't be employed almost immediately, as many of them are developed and simply need the funding to increase their availability.

I agree with you Brianne. It's true that many of these alternate sources are already fully developped, but it still takes time to implement them. It will happen but change always takes time, we can't just make an immediate switch. It might be possible to see alternative energy sources mostly phased in within a decade, but it will take a lot of pushing. The problem is getting the people to push. The government won't do anything unless the people push them first, so before we convince the government that we need to lower our dependence on oil, we need to convince the people. Apathy is the source of the problem.

The average Joe does not want to walk or bike to work he wants to take the car and exert a minimum amount of energy doing it. Its going to get worse especially with this new age of video games. I am already seeing it happen slowly but surely in the schools more and more youth are turning into FAT TUBS of SHIT. Thats as nice as i could put it but most kids these days do no sort of physical activity and do little in the way of bettering their health and its really costing us.

This is one of the reasons why i hate when everyone talks about healthcare. I am all for bettering the health system but should we be responsible to provide you with top quality care if you laid on your ass for 40 years, drank beer, smoked cigarettes, watched sports instead of playing them and turned into a tub of shit MY ANSWER IS....... HELL NO!!!!

since we are on the energy topic did anyone see the documentary on how Iceland is transforming their energy usage. They are scheduled to become the first completer Hydrogen society. I can't wait till we start heading down that road.

First: Iceland has always used less or no fossil fuel because of their geothermal activity. Of course, the geysers and volcanoes are melting the glaciers, which is causing some problem, but that's another discussion. They also have a population of 200,000 thousand, with most of that in Reykjavik. *S* But it is damn exciting, all the same.

Second: I did not say people were lazy, or that kids we're turning into FAT TUBS of SHIT. I said that we're not carpooling, using transit, walking or biking to work or school. That was the point; we need to cut our emissions and our need for oil by carpooling and using/funding transit. Not that people were lazy, just undereducated about the consequences of driving to the store as opposed to walking twenty minutes.

Third: Why shouldn't we be supporting people who smoked when they were younger if they paid their taxes? Because, let's face it, by the time we're elderly, people our age are going to say, "I don't think we should have to pay their bills if they used to eat at McDonalds and drank beer and played video games instead of enjoy all that nature they had back then." So, no, I'm not saying its great that these people smoked and didn't exercise properly, but those were choices; paying taxes to fund the health care system was not a choice.

Don't mean to be rude or offensive but, what does a barbed wire enema feel like?

Sorry if I said anything I shouldn't. Don't want to step on any toes...at least not without breaking them.

All i was saying was maybe if people got off their ass and stopped looking for the easiest way out things might be better but alas it is the human way.

I am also very excited to see how Iceland's experiment turns out but I think it will be very interesting.
