Hello.

I found this website yesterday and it's quite interresting.

>So what is this?

Jennifer Government: NationStates is a nation simulation game. You create your own country, fashioned after your own ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you.

>How do I play?

Click on the Create a Nation link and follow it from there. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics. This will determine what sort of nation you end up with: authoritarian or permissive... left-wing or right-wing... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

Once a day, you'll be faced with an issue, and need to make a decision as to what to do about it. This determines how your nation evolves.

You can get into a "region" which is like different worlds or you can create your own. We could create a Canadaka region and have our own UN delegate :P

It's very complete. You can post UN resolutions and vote. Some have dedicated forum of their region and are role playing different alliances, wars, etc between the countries.

Well, that's my nation:
The Kingdom of the Proculiens

Very cool.

I've created the Empire of Arenellia - which is a small, Northern Pacific island which is heavily armed, has compulsory military service, a free press, mandatory voting, and strictly guarded individual civil rights for Citizens.

Citizenship is obtained by either serving two years in the military or eight years in the civil service. Non-citizens have basic human rights but do not enjoy the privileges of Citizenship.

The government is a Roman style Imperium with an elected Senate and an elected Assembly.

"One Leader, One Nation, One People"

(Okay history buffs, where've you heard that before?)

The site leans left - only a left-wing nation can rate an 'excellent' for civil rights.

That's fine.

At least I trust my people with guns.

The Proculiens Decides:
More Police Needed
The Issue

As crime rates rise, some in the community are calling for increased policing.

The Debate

1. "Just the other day, I got mugged in the broad daylight!" says ruffian Miranda Winters. "And the ironic thing is I had just stuck up this other guy. When muggers are getting mugged, even I have to admit that crime has gotten out of control. We do need more police."
[Accept]

2. "The solution to crime is not more police!" says noted sociologist and occasional crime novelist Larry Shiomi. "Studies repeatedly show that crime is caused by poverty and poor education. Increase government spending in these areas, and crime will fall! Maybe not overnight, but it will happen."
[Accept]

3. "Yeah, good luck with that," says conservative leader and gun enthusiast Lars Jefferson. "Look, we do need more police, that's clear. But that's not enough. We need real punishments: sentences that will act as a genuine deterrent to people considering a life of crime. Like public floggings."

This is the position your government is preparing to adopt.

The Government Position

The government has indicated its intention to follow the recommendations of Option 3.

All your moderate lefties can move to Atlantica! We're located in the middle of the Atlantic, and we've got lots of lovely vacation spots, palm trees, nice year-round amiable temperatures, mountains for skiing, coral reefs, and greek ruins! We're the best!!!
