Theater vehicles are very expensive, I would rather have 1300 new MLs for training then, 300 of another vehicle to take their place. To tell ya the truth 1/2 an inch doesnt mean a whole lot these days, beside you can up armor anything.

No, 5 feet of steel doesn't mean a whole lot these days. Composite armour is where it's at. 8)

But half an inch is enough for most bullets, frags from most mines, grenades, etc.

My coyote would get pwnt by a 76mm sabot, nevermind the standard 105/120mm sizes, but against most small arms fire it does it's job fairly well... Nothing is perfect.

Maybe, but the article stricly said they would be used as logistics trucks and I don't really see how we have a use to be transporting ammo across Canada?

What? :?

Logistic Trucks are vehicles meant to carry supplies to the battlefield. In the article it said that some of them were meant to be logistic trucks so I am debating the people who say it will be used in Canada only by saying I don't see how Canada has a purpose for transporting ammo across Canada.

Training?

There are ranges all over the country, aswell as weapons depot's and amo storage faucilities.

Im not trying to be an ass, I am really having a hard time understanding what you are getting at.

Are you saying that some have to be logistic vehicles because the military has to have some way to transport logistical supplies?

Hehe it still doesnt stop the Taliban from firing small arms at a LAV, kinda gives creedence to the "They must be fucking high to attack us," theory.

We already had the vehicles for that, we bought 1, 300 new ones just to transport ammo to training grounds? Gosh, those CF soldiers must be shelling rounds like crazy.

The vehicles we have for logistics are falling apart, hence we bought 1300 new ones.

If they are falling apart, than some of them would be used to replace the ones used in the battlefield correct? Because I just can't see Canada buying 1, 300 new trucks just to transport ammo and supplies across Canada.

Which is just the point I am trying to make.

Nope on the "real" battlefield we use the HLVW, higher ground clearence and easier to up armor. The MLVW (what these are replacing) have not been considered combat worthy since the fall of the USSR.

The CF doesnt transport supplies across Canada at all really, we hire outside contractors (Semi/Transport Trucks and Flatbeds)to move our shit. These vehicles really wont be seen offbase unless they are going a short distance or are needed in a dire emergecy (natural disasters ect). They will mostly be used to move medium to small (10-25) people around in training grounds, move ammo/stores around to different Biv sites and various other mindless shit (ie moving drums of 15w40, moving locker, serving as Mechanic vehicles/MRTs ect).

Before you even get to it, no the HLVW is not good for these things because the vehicle is way too big. You dont need a 10 ton truck to move 20 sheets of plywood 30 blocks.

Not even, last I checked we were using the HSVW in Afghanistan now. Fucking sweet vehicle.

And for some reason we still use the HLVW to haul 5 200 pound propane drums and a couple turbines around. Used the flatbed tractor-trailor for all the heavy shit last week. Made life so much easier.

I saw a few HLs when I was over in 07, its good they switched to the HSVs. They need to get a FAR version set up, those things are still running on the HL chassis.

Probably on the way. I think we've ordered 100+ of the HS so far, so I don't see hwy they wouldn't.

Should get them for domestic use aswell. Things handle rough terrain alot better then the HLs.

I dont think he understands what logistics are.I do lots of logistics work up north and none of it involves ammo.

He's stuck on them hauling just ammo so a wiki quote is in order.

$1:
Logistics is the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources, including energy and people, between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of consumers (frequently, and originally, military organizations). Logistics involves the integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material-handling, and packaging. Logistics is a channel of the supply chain which adds the value of time and place utility.
