acid...If you don't know Donny here is a tid-bit about him. He loves the Canadian legal system as long as the laws benefit the FN's. Any other laws he feels that they do not apply to FN's because they are nations within our nation. He plays the 'R' card ad nauseum as long as it works in his favour.

Donny is a Canadian at his discretion.

Ahhhhhhhh that makes sense

Mustang1 Mustang1:

Like the Huron or the earlier Hopewell (although considerable debate remains about their cultural recession), Anazasi, or the widespread upheaval in MesoAmerica (pick a culture from Teotihuacan to Aztec-influenced forced immigration) The reality is that the New World has witnessed constant warfare, geographic dispersal, cultural drift and nomadic behavior long before Contact. In some places, in fact, there isn't any evidence of any permanent settlement and others are only recent Native occupation.

Wow, you can't understand how relieved I was to this post. For a while I thought you may be one of the Erik von Daniken crowd. Or at the very least, one of the Egyptians in MesoAmerica/Celts in America guys. It was a relief.

Funny. Nope, i don't subscribe to pseudo-history or revisionist tripe pushed by rank amateurs.

I, honestly, wish that someone like Donny could tell us the 'teddy bear soft' history of his people prior to the arrival of we 'evil doers' to qoute the great "W"! lmaof...It seems amazing that these peace loving keepers of the earth killed each other of in mass over 'traditional' hunting grounds that are now rich in oil that they must have known about!

PJB PJB:
Donny...you seem stuck on the idea of 'hunting areas'. Please provide us with numbers as to how many natives actually hunt for their food. You want these 'hunting areas' held sacred so come up with figures.

Your post is a waste of time. I don't need to prove that our people hunt because we already have to be consulted if someone wants to develop in and around these areas.

You are not making the laws around here. More informed people are.

Do the research on our issues yourself - it might help you sound less ignorant.

Zipperfish...You may want to check that out a bit before you jump to conclusions.

BC has no treaties but the rest of Canada does!!! The natives ceded lands but now they suddenly want it all back..hence the phrase "indian giver".

We have to uphold our end of the Treaty but you don't?

That seems like an odd deal.

These people want to be consulted because that is their right, they want to ensure that some numbered company does not come in and poison their water and disturb their way of life...

The same as any one of us would want.

Look it up yourself. Or pay me $150/hour and I'll be your research assistant since you can't seem to find the info yourself.

Donny...you avoided the question completely, as you usually do. I asked should I be consulted regarding lands I no longer own. The treaties ceded native lands to the crown but you and your followers tend to ignore that little piece of information!

Because we have the right to be consulted. Just as you do if someone wants to build a jail or a city dump in your area.

How about we drill for oil beside your water supply, or build a coal burning power plant beside your house.

I'm sure you would be fine with 6 years of heavy equipment building beside your place while your trying to live...eat...sleep?

It has nothing to do with ownership. It has to do with protecting your interests.

Jump to conclusions? I don't think I did. Not all Alberta bands ceded their titles to lands--I gather some specific claims are still outstanding. Even those that did often still have specific rights in the treaty for hunting and fishing on traditonal territories and such. There is a fiduciary duty for the Crown to consult where any treaty or aboriginal rights are adversely impacted.

Well just to set the record straight here, oil companies (or just about any company for that matter) has to hold public consultations on any development particularly if it's on public land. As well it's not just for native groups but any group be them white, red, pink or purple; pretty much anyone who may be affected by the proposed development.

Hell we have a project that runs from Longview up to Kamloops and there are people from as far away as Pincher Creek coming to the hearings.

That's why I find it highly suspect that there is a group that lives so close that and is claiming that they weren't consulted. It could be that because it was just for exploratory reasons the company wasn't required to perform the regular reg-a-marole but even then I have my doubts.

Good point. Read the article again though and see if you missed anything though.
