DerbyX DerbyX: Brenda Brenda: Fighting kids in the back, THAT'S distracting... You mean the threat to turn the car around doesn't work as well as my parents thought it did? I prefer the "leave them by the side of the road" method. Worked well in the past but not so much today, you know, with all that "child abandonment" rubbish.

One of the reasons a cell phone is a bad idea, is the person on the other end doesn't know enough to shut up when you may need all of your attention on the road. And, unfortunately, many drivers are habitually conditioned to attempt to listen to the cell phone instead of temporarily dropping it to deal with the driving situation.
A phrase not spoken often enough is " Sorry, could you repeat yourself, I dropped the phone to deal with a driving situation that required my full attention"

A phrase not spoken often enough is " Sorry, could you repeat yourself, I dropped the phone to deal with a driving situation that required my full attention" I saw a study on Daily Planet (I think) about this and it was found that even hands free cells are a problem. A passenger will automatically adjust his conversation to road conditions, actually stopping when the driver needs to pay more attention to his driving. A cell phone talker doesn't know what's happening and will continue to babble away, even if a semi is about to hit your car head on.

My dad tried that once and I called his bluff. Too bad he was holding a full house against my flush. It was a long walk but at least it wasn't raining.

It was on the learning channel right? They also mentioned that radio programs could be either helpful or harmful also. Familiar songs that can be easily sung to actually helped concentration but listening to talk radio especially if it was engrossing could hinder.

It will happen one day, they will call your bluff, and you will lose some or all credibility. When you say something, always be ready to do it. It's like a promise, it can never be broken.

It's been a few years since I've had to mess with car seats but something I've just started noticing are these, combine it with a cell phone and a "whats the baby doing now" conversation.

Brenda Brenda: I've always had an eye on my kids through my mirrors... Without enhancements... These are lined up so the driver can look into the rear view mirror of the car, to the baby mirror and then to the baby.. they're for rear facing car seats.
