Did you ever notice there are no Nazis named Steve?

- George Carlin

Anyhoo, Carson's latest revealed lie is unravelling. He claimed that in 1968, after MLK was assassinated, he saved several white students at high school from getting beaten up/murdered by rioting blacks by getting them into a store room that he had the key to and hiding them in there. The Wall Street Journal, hardly a bastion of lefty propaganda, looked into this and couldn't find anyone who was allegedly there at the time that could corroborate it. The campaign fired back with some kind of can't-prove-a-negative tactic and said the WSJ was lying.

At this stage it's looking more and more like Carson's biography is a complete fable. Instead of making things up he might have been better served if he'd done like J. Peterman once did and had Elaine put some kind of tale together out of some insane stories he bought from Kramer. 8)

Delwin Delwin:
Good points. I would also propose that Ben Carson may not even believe these things entirely himself. There is obviously a very real sense of disempowerment that come from having a low iq or being of average intelligence. There must also be a sense of empowerment when those whom are lacking in intelligence can refute their intellectual superiors. From a political standpoint, the ability to utilize this empowerment can be quite valuable. Ben is just vying for the stupid vote. It's a smart move.

I think he really believes it. It's so much part of American culture to swallow this crap that there probably actually is no cognitive dissonance, it's just "normal" to him and a significant portion of the American people. "Of course the earth is only 6000 years old, and of course the sciences are the best way we have of analyzing our objective experience." They can believe both at the same time, just make little hiccups for when their religious beliefs conflict with the science. Little lacunae of consciousness. Or, they do the same thing the AGW deniers do - just throw up a cloud of doubt and good enough.
