I get the the early parades, the ones in the years after the infamous Stonewall Raid, but that was 50(?) years ago. Sure Homosexuality is still outlawed in many nations, but in Canada and most of the west it's legal... so why protest parade here? People are getting tired of this being shoved in our faces and it really its starting to show; as that article from USA Today I posted in another topic.
The more they flaunt this, the more people will sour to the idea. I don't care what you do in the bedroom, why do I need to see what you do in the bedroom? I'm just happy imagining that everyone just goes and sleeps in the bedroom. I not interested in what your kink is. Really I'm not.
All this being said, a straight pride parade is equally stupid. See above for my reasons.
I am really at my wits end with this species.
I can't agree with this more. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass what someone's sexual orientation is, nor do I give a damn what they do behind closed doors. If it makes you happy, then that's great.
The issue is, like Llama has stated above, is that 'Pride' has become a giant piece of nonsense that gets shoved down everyone else's throats 24/7, and it's too much! 'Pride' used to have a weekend and a parade. Then it morphed into 'Pride Week'. Then it morphed into 'Pride Month', with so many companies promoting it (mainly because they've been intimidated into doing so) endlessly.
A local member of the gay community here in Barrie recently complained that because the only gay bar closed down years back, there was 'no safe space for gays to go' and that he 'was afraid of crossing the street'. Give us a break! I saw a news article over a year ago in which two homosexuals in Saudi Arabia were rounded up by a gang, tied to chairs, and thrown off a 10-story building. One survived the fall, and was capped by one of the group that was carrying a pistol.
Here in the West, people don't really give a damn if your gay or not, as long as it doesn't infringe on them personally.
There is a lesbian couple that go to my gym a few times a week. They just started their memberships a couple of months ago, and when they first came in, they would hold hands during their workouts. Okay, fine. Whatever. But in the last few weeks, they make out at every machine they use, and even sit on each other and dry hump (no, they are not that good looking, from a guy's standpoint).
Yet, if anyone were to complain, we'd probably lose our gym membership because this is how it is now. No one can anything about anything anymore for fear of reprisal. It's gotten to the point that just for asking someone to stop that politely, you can more than likely end up being labelled as a 'homophobe' and possibly lose your job.
What does this say about society as a whole now?
I believe in peaceful coexistence, to a point. Where does it say that everyone else's beliefs can supercede mine? I thought we had equal rights in this country. Clearly, that's not the case anymore.
