That is like saying everyone that drinks becomes an addict. it is not fact. Just as some can take or leave smoking. Addiction is much more than physical it is mental as well. These are life rec users...very functioning.
Again as I say rare. I'm like you Tatt I didn't read this on the net, I've lived it. I've lived and seen hard core alcoholism , I'm talking drinking rubbing alocohol . THEY still don't come anywhere close to a crack or in many cases prescription drug addict.
the most prevalent addict I see come through Detox is Alcohol. And yes It always goes down to rubbing alcohol. Detox from Alcohol is deadly and some can never be fully detoxed much like Benzo abuse...prescriptions. Two legal substances...one from government liquor stores and one from doctors. And why dont you think they dont come close to crack?
I know you have seen it but you have to look at addiction objectively and not from an emotional viewpoint. It is difficult when it is close to home, but crack addiction is no where near as bad as Meth, Alcohol and prescription meds. I always prefer working with crack addiction then the fore mentioned.
I agree that prescription drugs and meth are far worse than crack. I've seen and dealt with detox from both crack and long term alcoholism, it's been my personally experience that crack has a much lower recovery rate. I forget the actual percentage of recovery in crack. It is however my opinion that prescription drugs are the worst of the worst when it comes to addiction, withdrawal, platform drugs to other or multiple addictions. I should also add we as a society are guilty as well when it comes to prescription drugs. We are often the enablers because we want people that may be a little different from what we see as the norm, medicated. Then we don't have to take the time to understand their illness( as we see it), we don't have to take time out of our precious lives to be maybe a little more accepting. We call them mentally ill and expect them to fill their bodies with dangerous drugs so they fit into our definition of what "normal" is. We buy into media stigma that if someone is bi-polar or schizophrenic then of course they MUST be capable of murder or other horrendous deeds. We stop loving them when they choose to not take medication and life becomes a bit of a roller coaster ride. Yes, SOME mentally ill ( again our definition of that) do become killers. MORE "normal" people become killers. We take our kids that years ago we called a little high strung or active and now we call it ADD or ADHD and pump them full of Ritalin so they conform to what we comfortably see as NORMAL. The bottom line truth is we drug them so it becomes less work for our teachers, the parents , society to handle them. We make excuses like they are so much more focused now, they are so much more happier now, they can become so much more educated and aspire to a high standard of living. BULLSHIT they are fucking high to the point of being a zombie. Those kids may ACTUALLY be happy being just who they are even if they find it hard to concentrate in school and end up working as a sales clerk for the rest of their lives. We as a society are the ones telling them to take the drugs and the drug companies are laughing all the way to the bank.
