Hear hear. I always have an ironic chuckle to myself whenever I hear FIFA criticize someone or an FA about poor behaviour when FIFA is probably the only international body out there than can meet if not exceed the IOC in the depth and scale or its corruption.

I won't either. This wasn't the US' doing. This was the fault of a ref making a series of horrible calls. It wasn't just the two that led to the third tying goal. There were a number of fouls that she didn't call against the US team that she called against Team Canada.

Most importantly though were those two calls. I can't remember the last time I saw a keeper get punished for wasting time especially with 10 minutes left on the clock. It simply isn't done unless it's so blatant it has to be called. And the handball call was BS too. The ball was kicked so fast and there was no way either player could have gotten their hands out of the way in time. Not to mention the fact that there was no obvious motion of their hands either.

I don't care what her father says. The ref was incompetent and out of her depth. She isn't fit to ref a beer league IMO.

I think the money would be better spent on her getting some counseling on ethics and what it means.

To their credit though, they did send that one ref packing who called the match for that Azerbaijani boxer who was knocked down 6 times yet still managed to be the winner.

Bitch about it in the dressing room and maybe file an official complaint. Getting angry and talking shit on camera never works out. And seriously, why all the hate for FIFA over this? I agree that FIFA can be pretty sorrupt, and I agree that the calls were abysmal, but no league in the world lets players and coaches get away with simple criticism of offials in public, let alone implying bias or bribery.

See bolded text for "all the hate" - that's reason enough to hate any organization.

I also hate FIFA because the organization slants the World Cup towards Europe, while marginalizing everyone else. If you're going to have a World Cup, representation should be far more dispersed than it is.

On the rational side of things:

I agree that every league punishes people for criticizing refs, but when a team loses a close game because of bad officiating, you have to expect people to vent a little - it's human nature. Of course on the flip side, they can't complain about punishment because they are all well aware of what happens when you open your yap like that.

I have no problem with the venting. Did a little myself when I saw the game. I just don't see any reason to complain about FIFA "investigating" what was said after. Any rational sports fan knows they had to. And I do think that their statement that they needed until after the bronze medal game to gather all the facts is their way of saying "sorry, the ref blew it". There might be some kind of punishment, but atleast they let us have a shot(succesful!) at actually winning the bronze medal game.

I think the corruption in FIFA is an entirely seperate issue from this, as I don't think the ref was corrupt or dirty, just not up to the standards needed for that level a game.
