ShintoMale ShintoMale:
so it's ok to deny kids medical attention using religion Burns?
Good Lord! [sic] That conclusion cannot possibly be justified from my post.
No, it's not OK to let kids die from neglect or crazy, irrational religious beliefs. It's certainly not OK to send kids to war coz the US wants to control the middle east.
What I am saying is that the STATE should stay the fuck out of our lives. If some loony believes that God will save their children then we have no business telling them otherwise or forcing their children to submit to medical care.
Who OWNS these kids? The state? They sure act like they do.
Are we free or are we property of the state?
If you believe so strongly that what these parents are doing is wrong then YOU act according to your beliefs and be prepared to suffer the consequences - should the judge disagree with you.
If the state believes so strongly then it should engage in a dialog with relgious leaders and come to some sort of an accomodation. But politicians are too cowardly to do that, aren't they.
What we do NOT need is an ominpotent state controlling our lives and, at the same time, turning us all into moral cowards whose actions are confined to coffee klatches and internet forums.
I know it would be tragic of these kids were to die but there are plenty of tragedies:
$1:
Around the world, some 26,500 children die every day.
That is equivalent to:
* 1 child dying every 3 seconds
* 18 children dying every minute
* A 2004 Asian Tsunami occurring every week
* An Iraq-scale death toll every 15–36 days
* Almost 10 million children dying every year
* Some 60 million children dying between 2000 and 2006
The silent killers are poverty, hunger, easily preventable diseases and illnesses, and other related causes. In spite of the scale of this daily/ongoing catastrophe, it rarely manages to achieve, much less sustain, prime-time, headline coverage.
