uwish uwish:
I sure didn't want an election. It has only been..3 yrs since the last one?

No thanks...getting tired of this crap.

And that one was only 2.5 years after the one before it. Harper didn't seem to have a problem with that one, though....

DerbyX DerbyX:
Of course that sounds sensible and thus won't happen

Truer words have never been spoken

DerbyX DerbyX:
BTW, in case anybody is actually reading the platforms they'll have noticed that Harper has stolen the Lib platform. His budget is a Lib one with the exception of the corp tax breaks (which I disagree with). Very little difference between them. Of course my opposition to the Conservatives has always been social .....

Ya, the 12.7% thing is ripped right out of Martins 19** budget (I can't remember what year it was). I was a good idea then and is so now.

Hello! It wasn't the budget that took them down. It was contempt of parliament.

stokes stokes:
I hope the CPC gets that elusive majority for the following reasons:

1. the overall political climate in this country is in shambles. how can the "loyal" opposition blame the government for anything when the government cant do anything unless everyone agrees.

2. We, as a country, need stability so we can begin making progress as we are one of the best countries in the world but there is too much bs in the HoC.

3. IMHO there are too many political parties which does nothing but create problems. Should be 3 max, guess which one I would get rid of????

Agreed. A Conservative majority would be in the best interests of ALL Canadians. As or your idea of getting rid of one party......can we make it two? The Bloc AND Greens are both completely useless, and out of touch with reality.

Québec will never give them the seats for a majority. They will be lucky to keep 1

From the Globe and Mail. The second minority government of Stephen Harper has fallen.

Early Friday afternoon, 156 opposition MPs – all of the Liberals, New Democrats and Bloquistes present in the House of Commons – rose to support a motion of no-confidence.

It was also a motion that declared the government to be in contempt of Parliament for its refusal to share information that opposition members said they needed to properly assess legislation put before them.

Ken, your brain miswired or something? Today's non-confidence vote was due to the budget. This 'contempt' non-con vote was scheduled for next week, but wont happen because the Government fell today.

Get your facts straight.

You Grits....always fabricating or exaggerating something.

You get your facts straight. The non-confidence motion was just that. A vote of no confidence in the government. The motion was put forth by Iggy before the budget vote

http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/ ... algaryHome

$1:
Initially, it appeared that the Conservatives would be toppled on the budget vote, which would have turned their financial plan into a campaign platform.

However, the Liberals managed to delay the vote in the House and make their non-confidence motion -- which focuses on respect for Parliament and democracy -- the election trigger.

What was that about making stuff up?

To use your idiotic parlance --- The Libs said "lets get us some".

Trouble is they don't need to hide it.

I agree with most of what you said but the fact is, at least at the moment, they are hiding it. Even if they were to come out and say it's a possibility and like you said explain it, it might be more palatable to Canadians but to go about it in the manner they did after the last election was wrong as was evident by the reaction of most Canadians.

Its entirely possible Iggy isn't considering it. He might very well have been told that this is his one shot and if he fails to deliver the goods he is on his way out and the party won't support him leading a coalition.

Possible.

Personally I agree. I think they should campaign on a coalition platform and take the time to explain the reasoning and merits. Detail what a Lib-NDP platform will be.

Of course that sounds sensible and thus won't happen.

The Liberals don't have a "budget" nor do they have any policy. How does one steal something that doesn't exist?

See that is partisan nonsense. You might not agree with it or you may simply despise the Libs but to say they have no platform or policy is demonstratively false.

If you want constructive debates with give and take of points this is not the way to do it.

I haven't seen much on foreign policy or defence, nor really the economy.

What have you seen?

The entire package. I'm a registered Liberal so I get the updates.

Economy: As stated their platform is very close to Harpers because Harper had no choice but to reject hard line conservative policies. The Libs oppose corp tax cuts and GST cuts in favour of income tax cuts. They have a full platform.

Foreign policy & Defence? What are Harpers exactly? Get the same argument. Iggy is afterall well versed in foreign affairs and is something of a warhawk. In truth he's probably the best Liberal candidate pro-military people could hope for.
