How about putting it on a Vacation billing program? That's what I did when I went... I had to pay for 6 months of vacation time and 1 month of regular service because they will only do it for 6 months. Was something like $15 a month to keep the number.

I think thats why they are doing for him now, the father however, did not want to pay a red cent. He felt that since he son is doing something so special and so important for Canada, he should be allowed to opt our of the contract all together.

This kid is whining because he knows he can pull heart strings in this country by making the big bad company look like a heal.

To be fair, it's his dad that is doing the whining in this article. I doubt the kid had any intention of going to the press. After all someone who would volunteer for service probably wouldn't whine about a few months of cell bills.

What yer saying doesn't paint Shaw in a good light from what I saw. At the time, Shaw was the only game in town for cable in Windsor, and they acted like it!
I remember one time the cable was out for a week. Honest to shit, a week. Despite my and other's calls and complaints to billing, we still got charged for the entire month.
I guess that contract between parties only applied to me paying for service, regardless of whether I'm actually getting it.

Out west, I've actually been extremely happy with their customer service. Their tech support is excellent, and they've helped me through a few issues with my internet/email. Overall, I wouldn't switch.

After dealing with crappy service from Telus for several years, I switched to Shaw and haven't looked back. Their customer service out here is light years ahead of Telus in every way and they charge way less. I wish they offered cell service just so I could compare.

I'd switch in a heartbeat. I haaaaaaate Telus!

Rrrreeeeally... You sign up as a reservist as a war is going on, and you have no clue that you could be deployed in the next 3 years? If he couldn't figure that out, I'd say the contract is the least of his worries.

Actually, as a reservist in Canada you must volunteer to deploy overseas. You cannot be deployed, unless you volunteer, so this is entirely his fault and not his providers.

Precisely what I was pointing out. Obviously he knew there was a VERY good chance of deployment, so what the hell was he doing signing a 3 year contract, and why is he whining now (I realize this has now been resolved, but at the time...).

I'm glad there will be provisions in place to defer contracts during deployment for our service men, but I hope Rogers realizes that they've now set a precedent. What about other occupations where you're in remote areas (with NO internet access, and quite often no phone access) for undetermined lengths of time? Are they going to make provisions for those guys too?

True story. Daddy's living vicariously through his son and wasn't getting enough attention.
