So... SOME hair items that black people use are behind lock and key. Others aren't. I take it the ones behind lock and key are the most stolen products. I think there might be more stuff locked up.

Don't make it a racial thing. It's a store owner thing. She has to pay the bill on stolen goods. People (as in store owners) are not all bad...

And if the store can show that prior to them beng locked up the products were regularly targeted for theft and after they were locked up the number of thefts were reduced can we hold off on calling Obama to come up here in a cape and tights and save poor Dartmouth?

$1:
"We're behind the times, you know? As [U.S. President Barack] Obama said, we need a change. We all should be treated as equal," Ross said.

What does Obama have to do with this "tempest in a tea pot" in Nova Scotia?

He isn't our president...

The way some people speak of the man you'd swear he was the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Simple solution: the store should just stop carrying products for black people altogether. That way the shoplifters....er...black folks will just stay away from the store and order their hair products on the net or, better yet, open up their own store where black folks can steal them...er....buy them without being discriminated against.

I dont think they want to lose their business altogether, just want to curb the theft that has been happening recently. What they should do is publicly state that when they find an x% of an item is found to be stolen monthly it is kept behind lock and key. That way there is no need for all this fuss.

They havent made it public, all they have to do is annouce what their store policy is and they are in the clear. Which would make that woman who made the comment seem more idiotic.

All I see in this story, is some gossip from a hair salon...

The CBC was told to go to Shoppers Drug Mart's head office for comment...
They didn't, did they...

I think they did but were not given a comment as of yet, I have a feeling the story will die tomorrow. Since it is in Dartmouth and involves visible minorities in NS.

I've heard there is some deep seated racism routed in places like Halifax and Dartmouth. Any truth to that because quite frankly Nova Scotia is very low on my list of places I'd suspect racial tensions.
