Bruce_E_T Bruce_E_T: Actually some of us don't get to hate the Canucks because we rarely get to see them. I live near Toronto and the media there are really focused on the Leafs and the North Eastern teams. There are late evening games, usually two nights a week but it seems to me that Calgary is the feature team though it may be the Canucks or Oilers. In any case even if you made a point of watching their games from here you would not get much. It's not the media's fault so much. I've contacted both TSN and Sportsnet about the regional broadcasts of most Canadian teams. I mean holy shit, yer lucky if you can see a Senators game if you don't live in the greater Ottawa area. Both broadcasters told me it was the NHL that determines to whom they can broadcast specific games. Seems to be the opposite of the way it used to be where they'd blackout a game in a region as a way to encourage more ticket sales. But the way it is now, I hardly fail to see how showing people in Ontario more western team games would detrimentally affect the ticket sales of those teams.

Toronto based broadcasts seem to favour games with Montreal, Boston and Buffalo and then whatever comes along. As a result there are some teams (esp. in the West) that are rarely seen or possibly not seen at all. There is a time zone problem here for residents of EST as the Western games start and end later than is convenient for many people. We may see more of Calgary as Vancouver is yet another Time zone West. I am not familiar with Sportsnet by the way but am going on about CBC and TSN.

DanSC DanSC: Zipperfish Zipperfish: Well, if you don't live here, you don't have to. And I hasten to add, it really is a lousy city, Vancouver. I recommend staying away. Definitely will during the playoffs. Burning and looting really isn't my idea of a good time. I don't think it's most peoples idea of a good time. Must be why most people didn't take part, and many people helped turn in those that did.

I hate the Canucks based on what I saw in last spring's playoffs. I went into game one of the finals cheering for the Canadian team, but the Canucks were a bunch of divers and cheapshot artists. I suspect I'm not alone in initially cheering based on national pride, but switched to cheering for the Bruins because the style of game the Canucks played was an embarrassment to Canadian hockey.

Funny enough I concur 100%! Last nights game showed the Canucks trying to be a "tough" team, but instead revealed a team that loves the late hit. Really looking forward to the LA upset.

Penalty sponges. The 'nucks sucked last night.

Well, I'm glad I didn't crawl out of bed at 5:30 am to watch Game 1.
I don't tink the Canucks are cheaper than any other team in the league. I don't think the Canucks had any league suspensions this year, unlike most other teams. Geez, they were looking for guys to dis the Canucks and the best they could come up wihth was Duncan Keith and Adam Burrish? Yeah, couple of class acts right there.
But when we're talking NHL hockey, facts don't come into it. Emotion does.
The sad part for me is that the playoffs, being the slugfest they are, don't really show what a couple of truly skilled players the Sedins are. I've seen them on nights when they are magic. A lot of plays that are common in the league now were practically invented by them. Class acts as citizens of Vancouver, too.
GO CANUCKS GO!!!!

GO CANUCKS GO!!!! If the Sedins are as skilled as you state then they will find a way to play through the rough play. Many other superstars have managed, the Sedins will have to learn or Vancouver will forever be the team that wins the Presidents trophy but not Lord Stanley. As an afterthought I realized this might have sounded as if I am claiming the Sedins are not skilled, which wasn't my intent. If they learned how to survive the tough grind from last year Vancouver has a chance. If not then Vancouver will fall short again.

I don't hate the Canucks, I'm undecided on them. I really hate the Ottawa Senators, and hope New York creams them in the first round -J.

A bit surprised that the way Hyack pumps news stories onto this site, that somehow he overlooked posting the outcome of last nights game 1. I am sure if the outcome were reversed a thread about it would be on page 14 by now with all the back slapping going on.

Although, grit doesn't help as much these days. It doesn't matter how tough you are if you're getting head-hunted, like the players are now. I say get rid of the kevlar armor, get rid of the instigating penalty, and a player who headhunts gets a suspension that lasts as long as the other player is out.

OnTheIce OnTheIce: Nothing to say? I guess you didn't expect to get called out on the garbage you posted, so you result to insults and poor attempts to be funny. Attempts to be funny? Thanos is the funniest guy on here. You, unfortuantely, have demonstrated that you completely lack the virtue of a sense of humour at all. Just one of the many reasons it sucks to be you.

Sort of agree. The problem arises when a marginal player is the one "injured" and the team sits him the rest of the season to get rid of a "not-marginal" player from another team. On paper I agree with you but I don't think it would work for the one reason I gave above.

My personal opinion is it is the last one that the Canucks lack more than grit. Plus I think they're psychologically fragile--at laest they were last year, after that nasty hit in the first round by whats-his-buts. Probably never knowing which Luongo is going to show up adds to the imbalance. Still you never know. Sometimes teams gel in the playoffs, sometimes the wheels come off. I still remember the Cancuks '94 cup run with Linden, Maclean and Bure. They limped into the playoffs, but by the end it took everything that MIghty Messier and the Rangers could throw at 'em to beat them. Wish I could catch more games here, but it's iffy. I'm a Cancuk fan, but the series I really want to see is Flyers-Pittsburgh. It's looking legendar already.
