At the same time, Leslie said he had talked to a variety of political parties after he left the Canadian Forces, and when he decided to join Trudeau’s team, “one of the other parties didn’t take to this too well.”

Hmm if what he says it true, it looks like the guy was prostituting himself to the highest bidder and Justin needed the company more than anyone else. But, then again I don't believe anything that comes out of Leslie's mouth be it financial or political, his claims and denials are dubious at best which should make him the perfect politician.

The guy was a perfect politician before he even retired from the CAF.

Never had the misfortune of running into him but I can remember a couple of Generals who were good guys and after talking to them you could tell they were for their troops.

But, then living through the 80's "me, me, me era" of excesses in the Canadian Military I've run into far to many Senior Officers who were out only for themselves and Gen. Leslie unfortunately seems to be an throwback to that bygone era of "blatant career planning" and self gratification.

The system may just float people like that to the top. Corporations operate that way and a peacetime military may just, too.

Not sure it's only during peacetime. Remember a comment by a soldier during the early stages of the Astan war being sent there: "this is going to be good for my career." It will be denied here, and I will be castigated, but many soldiers seem to champ at the bit to go to war. Gives a point to all that training, finally lets them get tested under real conditions, and what is that line from a movie "war has a way of advancing one's career?"

What really scares me is that because of his apparent elitism and political aspirations he seems to be more than willing to play politics with our Military's future.
