I like the comments section better than the article itself.

I always find it questionable when a Newspaper tries to pass itself off as unbiased, and even posts many objective articles criticizing the Cons on important issues, then proceeds to endorse them - dismissing everything else.

... And the reaction to the comments. :)

Reader reaction to The Globe’s endorsement of Stephen Harper
$1:
As of 12:30 p.m. ET, Globe and Mail editorial endorsing Stephen Harper for Prime Minister is the most-read story on our website. It has more than 3,300 comments, 6,000 Facebook recommendations and almost 1,000 Twitter mentions (excluding retweets).

Considering that volume, we are providing a curated sampling of reader commentary. While most comment was negative, there were a range of views.

Does the Globe remember when they went to the remarkable steps of posting an editorial on their front page in late December of 2009 against Stephen Harper? It was on your front page for cripes sake. Yet, you endorse this same man?

What was the point of posting all the comments, but not taking the time to actually address the vast majority of problems brought up in them? 8O

What do you guys expect. At heart the Globe is a conservative paper. It's not red-meat enough for the real Kool Aid drinkers out there, but it's blue. I read it because it's the most informative paper available in Vancouver, and it is pretty balanced. It doesn't shy away from criticizing Harper. Just that they think he'd make the best PM.

And I actually do too - in a minority govt.

Out of all the papers I would say the Globe is fairly balanced. You may see different journalists lean one way or the other but over all the Globe is probably one of the more neutral papers out there. hat being said I personally tend to think the opposite, that they lean to the left a bit more but to a much lesser degree than others.

Now if it were the National Post I would agree with you.

Haven't read the NP since the CanWest days, but from my fair and balanced perspective they are a neo-con extreme rightwing rag.

The Globe has traditionally been a Tory paper and supported Tory candidates. Just they didn't follow the CPC into Reformacon land, is all.

Well I can say that the Globe has all ways been a very business oriented newspaper so that may have something to do with it.

I can't believe what they are charging for the Globe these days. I bough a copy the other day, $2.25! That's just crazy.

Would you pay in order to read the paper online (or any currently free publication)? Been a lot of talk about that as papers are seeing their medium dying to the masses of people who now get their news through the internet (or the Daily Show).

Yup. I get it delivered, but it's still steep. But I'm an old futz, gotta have my paper. To me it's worth it.

That's a good question, I don't know.

I read the Sun in the morning with coffee. It's a fairly "light" newspaper with so so articles so it's good for first thing in the morning. Then I read the Herald, which I subscribe to, when I get to work. It's an over all better paper which is better written and has more in depth articles. I also buy either a Globe or a National Post a few times a week when I'm heading up town for meetings to get a better national perspective.

Out of all of them the Sun might be the only one I would subscribe to online because it's my morning paper which I read every day online all ready but it's free right now so ... As for the others, I would subscribe but not online. For some reason I just like the feel of a news paper in my hands when I'm reading them.
